    Job Purpose & Position Overview

    The Assessment Specialist will work as a liaison between children, youth, parent, and justice system providers in order to help provide the best-case management solution possible. The Assessment Specialist will work with juvenile offenders who have been cited or arrested and are entering the juvenile justice system through centralized intake. The Assessment Specialist will provide both initial and ongoing screening and assessments, assist in establishing the risk and protective factors concerning a referred juvenile, and gather other pertinent information needed to formulate a case management plan and expedite any necessary interventions. This may include identifying any special needs such as treatment, counseling, or both. The Assessment Specialist will play a significant role in the Team Case Management approach established between the Tribal Court, Juvenile Probation, Juvenile Rehabilitation and Reentry, and Juvenile Drug Court.

    Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values

    Assesses juveniles and families of juveniles using various screening and assessment results to help determine need or placement.

    Uses data, such as progress reports and areas of trouble, to provide information and recommendation to Juvenile Court, Juvenile Probation, etc. to reflect a juvenile’s strengths and needs.

    Provides individual, family and group therapy.

    Monitors the progress of juveniles within an entire caseload, maintains records and communicates with parents and professionals staff.

    Attends and participates in ongoing training sessions, data analysis meetings and court hearings.

    Works with the Case Management Team to help identify the best practices for individual juvenile offenders and families.

    Provides input regarding the development and implementation of an intervention plan as part of a comprehensive case plan or treatment plan.

    Works with parents, family, teachers and staff to teach the intervention tactics being implemented.

    Prepares reports for Juvenile Court, Probation, etc. regularly.

    Attends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills.

    Participates in evaluations of the intervention plan.

    Manages and orders materials that are necessary for performing job functions.

    Must be able to work collaboratively with groups.

    Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate recommendations based upon collected data and information.

    Demonstrates patience for working with youth who may have serious learning disabilities.

    Shows the ability to create and maintain a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to learning.

    Collects client data for the project data base.

    Prepares monthly reports containing client data for the immediate supervisor.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    Master’s Degree in Mental Health or related field.

    Minimum of Provisional Licensure with State of Nebraska for substance abuse and/or mental health.

    Minimum of two years’ experience with at-risk youth in wraparound services and/or residential systems is preferred.

    Minimum of two years’ experience in a management, supervisory role or administrative capacity.

    Ability to direct the design, development, implementation, and modification of education, vocational, counseling, and other treatment programs and services for youth, of security and custody programs, and of all other programs involved in the feeding, housing and protection of juvenile and the public.

    Ability to communicate and listen effectively with clients, staff and parents.

    Maintain confidentiality of clients at all times.

    Maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance.

    Physical and mental skills and abilities required to perform the essential function of the position.

    Ability to work independently and without direct supervision within the community.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Ability to manage and supervise staff and clients.

    Physical Requirements:

    Normal to very heavy office work which includes the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

    Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

    While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

    Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, finger, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.

    YCIC employees may be subject to physical exertion involving standing, walking, and running which could requires sustained and considerable strength and endurance.

    Mental Requirements:

    Above average social interaction skills

    Reasoning/Analysis

    Works with minimal to no supervision

    Language Requirements:

    Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

    Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

    Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
