    Job description

    The Executive Director provides overall leadership to the non-profit Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance (Wishbone) organization and is responsible for the implementation of Wishbone’s mission through programs, fundraising, board, volunteer and staff development. The Executive Director reports to the president of the board of directors.

    Executive Director Job Duties

    ● OPERATIONS

    ○ Act as Allegan County Animal Shelter operations liaison and consultant to ensure the successful implementation of Wishbone’s Value-Added Services.

    ○ Coordinate with a team of external and internal functional leaders, such as the medical director, shelter operations manager, office manager, volunteer coordinator, and development director to optimize efficiency and animal welfare.

    ○ Coordinate with the shelter medical teams, including Wishbone’s internal and outside medical staff, for clear communications regarding animal health conditions and medical care.

    ○ Oversee the work schedule, ensuring the appropriate level of work coverage for Wishbone Employees and volunteers.

    ○ Provide leadership and oversight for the job performance of Wishbone Staff, and volunteer animal caretakers, resale shop, and pet-food pantry teams.

    ○ Hire and manage all Wishbone Employees.

    ○ Oversee facilities maintenance for the Non-profit Wishbone House and any future Wishbone facilities.

    ○ Develop and coordinate strategic goals related to operations.

    ○ Regularly review and update policies, procedures, and guidelines to assure compliance with the Department of Agriculture, MIOSHA, and all other applicable local, state and federal laws.

    ● DEVELOPMENT

    ○ Identify and implement creative strategies to meet fundraising goals through special events, corporate underwriting, grants, and funder acquisition and retention.

    ○ Relationship building for funding with grants, sponsors, individuals, and corporate donors.

    ○ Review and improve retail sales for Resale Shop.

    ● ADMINISTRATIVE ○ Manage the overall organization's annual budget.

    ○ Responsible for payroll and accounts payable needs.

    ○ Manage donor base for fund development of the non-profit.

    ○ Be the face of Wishbone for community outreach and development.

    ○ Oversee Social Media strategies through volunteer and staff content developers and managers.

    ● Qualifications

    ○ 4-year degree or equivalent business experience

    ○ Five to seven years in not-for-profit association management, preferably within an animal-related organization.

    ○ Proven fundraising experience using a variety of techniques including major gifts and grant acquisition, cultivation, and solicitation.

    ○ Proven and applicable skills in planning and budgeting volunteer and staff development and supervision.

    ○ Self-motivated, results oriented leader with strong organizational skills.

    ○ An effective communicator, both written and oral.

    ○ Able to interact successfully with staff, volunteers and board members..

    ○ Must be computer literate (proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Excel; familiarity with QuickBooks and DonorPerfect a plus).

    ○ Must possess a good credit history.

    Classification and Hours

    The Executive Director position is a Full-Time exempt salaried position Monday through Friday with some evenings, holidays and weekends as needed for special events, fundraising, board meetings and circumstances requiring direct leadership intervention.
