    Job Description

    A DAY IN THE LIFE AT WONDERFUL:

    The Student Affairs Specialist (SAS) is primarily responsible for creating and maintaining systems to promote a positive, joyful, & celebratory student culture in alignment with the mission & vision of Wonderful College Prep Academy. The SAS will perform a variety of tasks related to student discipline, student attendance, student recognition and related issues, as defined by the principal. SAS works to resolve school attendance and student welfare concerns through student case management -- in partnership with families, and community-based resources. Promotes school attendance through positive connections with parent community.

    AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #1: School Culture & Climate

    • Lead systems to reinforce the school culture, in alignment with our mission, vision, and values.
    • Lead monthly programs to recognize and reward students for exemplifying the mission, vision, & values of Wonderful College Prep Academy, Lost Hills.
    • Create and lead rituals and routines that promote a college-bound culture & build school spirit.
    • Execute the districtwide systems & protocols for student discipline.
    • Provide support and interventions for students, in partnership with parents and teachers.
    • Create parent events to recognize students for reaching academic and culture goals.
    • Assists with parent education, trainings, & meetings after school hours.

    AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #2: Student Discipline & Attendance

    • Communicates attendance/discipline procedures, requirements, standards, and expectations to students, parents, and community.
    • Contact parents/guardians and/or makes home visits to resolve problems of student attendance and welfare.
    • Participates in the School Attendance Review Team (SART) with the principal or assistant principal.
    • Investigates chronic truancy issues as requested by administration and works with students and parents/guardians to improve attendance and academic success.
    • Maintains records of parent/guardian/student contact and follow-up memorandums to monitor improvement in student attendance.

    AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #3: Student Case Management

    • Identify students' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and supporting to solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    • Attends community meetings and events, as required, to represent Wonderful College Prep Academy.
    • Serves as a liaison of communication between parents and school administrators.
    • Support teachers and staff with students' behavior & when students are removed from the classroom for behavior.
    • Connect students to services during times of crisis.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by principal.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field, required
    • Experience related to managing schoolwide school culture
    • Possession of valid and appropriate California driver's license
    • preferred
    • Ability to communicate effectively with both students and adults
    • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption

    Skills and Traits:

    • General office experience, including organization, planning, filing, research, and computer use (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Aeries, & related Google Drive apps)
    • Familiar with attendance policies and procedures
    • Student interviewing and counseling techniques
    • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Strong oral and written communication skills with staff & parents and families.
    • Understanding of Wonderful Health & Wellness policies.
    • Basic knowledge of health & safety regulations.
    • California Education Code relating to student discipline and attendance.
    • Summarize data & information from a variety of sources and to prepare reports.
    • Establish and maintain efficient record keeping/filing systems.
    • Maintain confidentiality of records & student disciplinary proceedings.
    • Plan and execute student & parent events aligned to our mission, vision, & values.
