SPECIAL EDUCATION LEAD TEACHER
KINDERGARTEN-2ND GRADE SPECIAL PURPOSE SCHOOL PROGRAM
PINELAND CAMPUS (NEW GLOUCESTER)
EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES
SALARY: Starting at $38,000.00 annually
SCHEDULE: The Special Education Lead Teacher of the K-2 program works full-time, Monday through Friday. The position is salaried and is year-round.
WOODFORDS FAMILY SERVICES IS SEEKING A DYNAMIC INDIVIDUAL TO JOIN OUR NEW KINDERGARTEN-2ND GRADE SPECIAL PURPOSE SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN SOUTHERN MAINE AS A SPECIAL EDUCATION LEAD TEACHER. THIS NEW PROGRAM WILL SERVE CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN WITH WOODFORDS FOR PRESCHOOL AND COULD BENEFIT FROM MORE TIME IN THE PROGRAM BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO PUBLIC SCHOOL, AS WELL AS CHILDREN FROM SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS WHO MAY BENEFIT FROM ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. THE K-2 PROGRAM IS OFFERED AT BOTH OUR WESTBROOK, AND OUR PINELAND (NEW GLOUCESTER) CAMPUSES.
Our Early Childhood Services' Kindergarten-2nd Grade Special Purpose School program focuses on continued intervention and support for students who show signs of increased behavioral, developmental or mental health issues.
- OUR LEAD TEACHER WILL WORK IN CLASSROOMS WITH SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 2ND GRADE WHO HAVE AUTISM AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.
- THE LEAD TEACHER POSITIVELY IMPACTS THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS, AND IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A NEW PROGRAM AND TEAM THAT PROVIDES ON-GOING SUPPORT TO YOUNG STUDENTS WHO NEED IT.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION K-2 LEAD TEACHER:
- A MINIMUM OF A BACHELOR'S DEGREE, IN SPECIAL EDUCATION, EARLY CHILDHOOD OR A RELATED FIELD.
- A MINIMUM OF AN ED. TECH III CERTIFICATE; AND A CONDITIONAL OR FULL K-8 CERTIFICATION; FULL K-8 CERTIFICATION PREFERRED, FROM THE MAINE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION; AS WELL AS BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL (BHP) CERTIFICATION.
- A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) YEARS' EXPERIENCE AND THE DESIRE TO WORK WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IMPLEMENTING APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA) PROCEDURES IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS.
- Must be an U.S. Citizen or maintain legal alien status.
- Must have a valid driver's license. Driving students to/from field trips may be necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION K-2 LEAD TEACHER:
- Attend IEP meetings as a special education consultant
- Responsible for the overall operation of the classroom
- Develop developmentally appropriate programming for each child's individual goals and objectives
- Participate in IEPs quarterly and provide appropriate documentation
- Independently conduct assessments and support with the writing of educational plans for children enrolled in the program
- Provide direct care to children based upon Individual education Plan (IEP) and/or Individual Treatment Plan (ITP)
- Set up, including preparing material and lesson plans, and maintain an appropriate learning environment
- Attend and participate in required meetings
- Follow written positive behavior support plans and support with training teachers on positive behavioral instruction
- Have frequent collateral contacts with therapists and other members of students' teams
