Lifeguards are responsible for the overall aquatic safety of all facility guests and enforcement of facility rules. This position is part time, non-exempt, and requires a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programs, activities, and facility needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Team members are responsible for the overall safety of the facility guests. Duties include visually scanning water for distressed swimmers, enforcing facility safety rules, and maintaining facility cleanliness before and after open hours. All lifeguard candidates must successfully complete the Starguard lifeguard certification course which will be provided by the Park District for a fee of $65. The certification course fee will be refunded at the end of the season to all lifeguards who complete the season in good standing. All lifeguard candidates must be able to swim 200 yards (8 pool lengths, non-stop) and tread water for 3 minutes. In addition to completion of the lifeguard course, all lifeguard team members must complete an additional 4 hours of in-service training (provided by the Park District) each month. Applicants should be confident, friendly and not afraid to converse with adults. Applicant Minimum Age: 15 Average Hours/Week: 30 Starting Wage: $12.50 Lifeguard Team Training - Lifeguard Certification - 14 hours + independent study - Facility Training - 2 hours - All Staff Meeting - 2 hours - Preseason Inservice - 2 hours - Operations Training - 2 hours In this position Lifeguards must maintain a high level of readiness and be prepared to handle any emergency situation. Enforce all rules and regulations as indicated in the Cypress Cove Aquatic manual or any additional rules assigned by the manager(s) on duty. Have a total working and functional knowledge of all safety, rescue and first aid equipment located at the pool. Be prepared to demonstrate the use of any rescue or first aid procedure as covered in the in-service or lifeguard training program. Attend and be held accountable for information presented at all required in-services and staff training (a minimum of four hours of in-services required each month). A complete job description is available upon request. Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Physical ability to swim and have a deep sense for water safety. CPR Certificate in Adult, Child & Infant. Starguard Lifeguard License. Physical ability and endurance to perform the job as required. Must be reliable and punctual and mature. Ability to deal with patrons diplomatically. Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to effectively problem solve and adapt to change.
