    Position Overview

    Job Title: Woodworker

    Department: Backend / Production

    FLSA Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)

    Reports To: Department Leader / Production Supervisor

    Position Summary:

    The Woodworker is responsible for executing core production operations including assembly, sanding, priming, and prepping custom wood doors for shipment. This role requires a high degree of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and versatility across multiple stages of the manufacturing process to ensure products meet strict quality standards.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities

    • Production Operations: Efficiently perform all department functions across sanding, priming, final assembly, and shipping as assigned.

    • Quality Control: Take personal ownership of the quality of the product at every stage of production, identifying defects and making surface repairs before doors move to the next phase.

    • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on machinery and tools as assigned by the department leader.

    • Safety & Housekeeping: Operate all tools and machinery in a safe manner, adhere to company safety protocols, and maintain a clean, organized work area.

    • Flexibility: Work overtime as required to meet strict customer delivery commitments and production schedules.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    1. Sanding, Surface Prep & Finishing

    • Machinery Operation: Proficient in operating Wide Belt Sanders and Quick Wood Sanding equipment.

    • Hand Prep: Skilled in hand sanding utilizing a Dual Action (DA) sander, cleaning copes, and stamping finished doors.

    • Surface Repair: Ability to seamlessly fill joints and repair surface imperfections.

    • Finishing: Experience with paint and primer application, wood staining, color matching, and top-coating procedures.

    2. Final Assembly & Pre-Hanging

    • Hardware Installation: Proficient in installing hinges, miscellaneous hardware, and weather stripping.

    • Glass Work: Ability to clean and caulk exterior glass components securely.

    • Pre-Hanging: Skilled in final surface touch-ups and precisely installing/fitting doors into assembled jambs.

    3. Packaging & Shipping Logistics

    • Carrier Protocols: Familiar with processing package shipments via major carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) as well as Common Carrier (LTL) shipping.

    • Logistics Prep: Ability to manually create accurate packing lists.

    • Securing Loads: Proficient in both hand and automatic shrink-wrapping techniques and safe truck-loading procedures.

    Education & Experience

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is a plus.

    • Proven experience in woodworking, finish carpentry, or a specialized door manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
