We believe beauty is a conduit linking our senses with our humanity; casual, daily encounters with beauty are essential for healthy individuals and healthy societies Opportunity: Assistant to Garden Services Manager The Garden Services Assistant works directly with the Garden Services Manager and works closely with the Construction Supervisor to help build gardens from installation to ongoing garden services. Knowledge of plants and garden maintenance is required. Key areas of responsibility will be in the day-to-day workings of the garden services crews, maintenance of indoor plants and assistance in plant-sourcing and quality control. Skill Set: - Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Bi-lingual a plus. - Time management, budget management. - Extensive plant knowledge; experience assessing the health of plants and turf grasses, ability to identify pests and diseases and recommend follow-up treatments. - Understanding of garden maintenance tasks and their cultural and aesthetic implications. - Understanding of irrigation principles, including programming controllers and watering restrictions. - Knowledge of water requirements of plants and lawns. - Physically capable of lifting 50lbs. - Experienced driver with a minimum age of 25. - Ability to manage multiple priorities. - Good working knowledge of spreadsheets. Experience with CRM a plus. - Curiosity and desire to develop plant and garden knowledge. Responsibilities: Client Interaction: Communicate regularly with Garden Services clients - Generate project status updates including garden development, schedules, seasonal garden tasks and special requests. - Understand and advocate for what the client wants. - Set and manage client expectations about the garden building process and deliverables. Team Interaction: Support and Assist Garden Services Manager - Daily operations in the maintenance of client gardens, the company greenhouses, interior and exterior potted plants. - Assist in sourcing, pricing, scheduling, and gathering of plant and other materials for installation and Garden Services projects. - Manage the input of new projects into CRM. - Maintain schedule of plant material to be delivered to job sites. - Oversee quality control of purchased plant material. - Assist in setting on site priorities and tasks for garden services crews. - Assess garden and plant health on sites. - Assist in maintaining and updating inventory of greenhouse plants, fertilizers and chemicals, reorder as needed. - Assist in the installation of "special" projects for maintenance and installation clients. - Perform irrigation system checks, seasonal programming, and system troubleshooting . - Work on long term projects, i.e. Create book for interior plants and pots program, grow out inventory of specialty plants, grow out specimen planter/plant combo, etc. - Assist in the ongoing development of the interior and exterior potted plant program. - Represent WCDG interests; uphold our professional reputation. Education/experience Requirements While a bachelor's degree is preferred, candidates without a degree will be considered with 3-4 years of relevant horticulture or nursery experience.
