    Communication Director

    The Communication Director is an active leader because he or she is responsible for crafting the communication strategy of the organization. In order to achieve a viable strategy everything the organization says and does must strengthen its credibility and influence. This role is responsible recognizing and capitalizing on external opportunities. He or she will report to the Chief Public Affairs Officer and The Chief Advancement Officer. The Communications Director will manage a team of a full time graphic designer along with a set of external communications consultants.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:

    • Develop and manage the internal communication.

    • Revise and launch systems and processes to work interdepartmentally to develop a communication strategy.

    • Inform, and engage other staff in communications work to diversify the Organization’s voice.

    • Build brand awareness through communication initiatives.

    • Develop initiatives, content, and manage social media channels to broaden influence and audience.

    • Develop and manage a media relations strategy.

    • Be an external representative in the Houston community.

    • Set key communication goals.

    • Set and manage the vision for events.

     

    Skills & Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required.

    • At least 3-4 years of writing and project management experience.

    • A background in public education and grant writing is highly preferred.
