  • Responsibilities

    The Assistant Director will oversee the policy agenda of the organization. The policy agenda includes forming strategic development, supporting policymakers, and launching programs complemented with new content. The Assistant Director will design, plan, and execute learning experiences for policy leaders. This role reports to the Managing Director and will focus on how federal and state policies can improve economic, social, and educational outcomes. This work will lead the program's work on education improvement.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:

    • Collaborate with the executive director and other members to develop a strategy and project plan.

    • Serve as project lead as a liaison between congressional staff and leaders.

    • Conceptualize, research, and create resources.

    • Collaborate with our Senior Communications Manager.

    • Create a deeper understanding of the connection between education and mobility from poverty.

    • Build and maintain relationships with Congressional staffers.

    • Organize and facilitate various events.

    • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders.

    • Manage the policy team which includes the Policy Associate and Program Coordinator.

    • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Practice for alignment.

    • Manage budgets and grants-management timelines.

    Skills & Experience Required:


    • Bachelor’s degree required.

    • At least ten years working in policy or related role.

    • A deep understanding of Congress, congressional players, and policy decision-makers.

    • Adept project management skills.

    • Design and execute adult learning experiences.

    • Dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

    • Travel up to 20% of the time.
