    The Editor, Biotech & Life Sciences position at BioBuzz Media, a division of Workforce Genetics, LLC. is a unique role that’s ideal for a creative, driven person who thrives off helping to tell stories that educate, connect and inspire your readers, and wants an opportunity to build and grow a media brand. In this role, you will cover stories in the biohealth industry in the Capital Region and Philadelphia, specifically writing features on industry leaders and companies, as well as talent, hr and workforce relevant stories.

    The right Editor for this role will be excited to play an important role in the company's growth and help to drive the expansion plans from two markets to ten markets in the coming few years.

    The individual in this position collaborates closely with the Marketing and Sales teams, and some clients, to deliver an exceptional experience to our customers and audience through the conceptualization, design and execution of editorial and content programs. You will be expected to build relevant relationships and work with the company to expand your network, and use your unique creativity and talents to develop original stories that engage and grow our audience. In this role, you will be driven to enhance the audience and customer experience to improve engagement and grow our brand.

    The core responsibilities of this role will be centered around writing and strategizing to meet our editorial objectives, and managing the editorial calendar and production process.     Reporting, Writing & Editing Responsibilities:

    • Research and learn the strategic editorial goals for BioBuzz to develop content and manage an editorial and content calendar.

    • Conceptualize, research and write articles and stories that meet BioBuzz’s editorial goals for digital publication and newsletter on a weekly basis.

    • Engage with the local biohealth community to foster valuable relationships to help identify, develop relevant news stories, especially to get exclusive and breaking stories for biobuzz.

    • Conceptualize, strategize, research and write sponsored content for clients to help achieve the client's objectives and reach their target audience.

    • Manage the weekly newsletter with editorial responsibility for the overall content including subject line, original stories, curated news, advertisements to ensure maximum engagement and subscriber growth.

    • Work with others to develop strong multimedia components for stories, such as graphics, videos, podcasts and interactive graphics

    • Write sponsored stories for Workforce Genetics on topics related to recruiting, employer branding and HR as it relates to the biotech industry.

    Business / Client Responsibilities:

    • Work to establish and build new relationships within our target market to identify and track news stories or leads for new clients.

    • Keep CRM updated information on contacts and story leads to accurately track and manage current or future relationships.

    • Manage relationships with key personnel, including media, pr/communications personnel, clients, industry partners and vendors.

    • Work with CEO and/or account managers to help develop appropriate content strategies for sponsored content.

    • Assist with marketing and communication strategies as needed.

    • Manage your deliverables and timelines associated with client project work.

    • Attend company or industry related events throughout Maryland and be an ambassador for the company which may include helping with social media, event management or other duties within reason while at events.

    • Help to develop processes that improve efficiency, effectiveness and success of the company and its business practices.

    Qualifications:

    • Previous experience as a journalist, editor or content writer for a digital media publication.

    • Previous experience managing to an editorial calendar, and overseeing other writers is a plus.

    • Ability to understand complex technical concepts (such as those in biotechnology and healthcare) and write about it at a high-level to a broad audience.

    • Ability to understand macro-economic and industry trends and apply those to effective writing and editorial strategy

    • Story-telling — the ability to translate complicated topics and data into engaging content

    • Good interviewing skills and the ability to interview executives and diverse audiences.

    • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a virtual team environment efficiently

    • The ability to communicate and build rapport with executives and scientific personnel

    • Time management and personal responsibility to manage your work to meet deliverables and established goals with minimal supervision

    • A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to build the structure around your goals and job responsibilities

    Work Environment:

    Standard hours of operation are 9:00am to 5:00pm, M-F. Employees may work flex hours as long as they are communicated in advance, approved by Company and are able to maintain their full-time duties. All work is performed remotely at this time as Workforce Genetics is operating as a virtual company. In-person meetings will be expected throughout the week at mutually agreed upon locations to manage and deliver the desired work product. At such time when the Company does open a physical office an agreed upon in-office work schedule will be established. Some travel within the State will be required, as well as some evening work-related events.
