    We are seeking qualified candidates for a brand new role in Gaithersburg, MD with an exciting cell therapy company. Our client is a venture backed, early stage biotech company focused on the development of novel cell based therapies. They are currently advancing several programs through the preclinical and clinical pipeline and are in need of a Scientist, Protein Engineering to join their discover/preclinical team.

    Summary:

    The Scientist position is open to innovative and highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. degree and 2 + years post-degree experience in protein engineering. A successful candidate will work with a cross-functional team responsible for discovery and development of novel therapeutic proteins. The incumbent will be a result-oriented self-starter with a commitment to teamwork and reliability

    Responsibilities:

    · Plan, design, execute, and record experiments, and independently analyze results using good scientific principles and with keen attention to detail and quality.

    · Design and implementation of protein engineering technologies, recombinant protein production and engineering therapeutic properties.

    · Develop and execute high-throughput screening using automation technologies.

    · Evaluate novel technologies in antibody discovery and molecular biology to enhance and streamline discovery workflows.

    · Write and review technical protocols and reports.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    · PhD in a life sciences (e.g. Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology), with minimum of 2 years post-degree experience in in protein engineering.

    · In-depth understanding of protein engineering, phage display, recombinant protein expression and protein analytics and protein characterization.

    · Significant experiences in antibody/protein engineering, structural biology and immuno-oncology.

    · The ability to understand and interpret complex data is essential and the position requires strong organizational and documentation skills.

    · experience in the design, construction, expression, characterization and optimization of recombinant proteins. Experience with biopharmaceutical product design and lead optimization is preferred.

    · Experience in the design and execution of selection and screening strategies, utilizing phage display (or a related display method).

    · Proficiency with high throughput screening, sequencing and characterization of bacterial clones.

    · Experience with optimizing expression yield and quality. Experience with multiple protein expression systems (e.g. bacterial, yeast or mammalian systems) is preferred.

    · Experience utilizing and developing appropriate methods for assessment of protein-protein interactions.

    Demonstrates strong scientific thinking/rigor and project organizational skills to navigate projects forward.
