    Our client is a privately held, clinical-stage, pre-IPO biotechnology company pioneering the development of vaccines through its investigational proprietary technology platform which is designed to utilize the body’s natural biochemistry to develop vaccines that have the potential to generate broad immune responses.

    We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Research Associate II – Cell Therapy.  The candidate will be responsible for supporting the Cell Therapy team in important research and development activities.

    Essential Functions

    Reporting to the Scientist, Cell Therapy, the position will play a key role in process development of cell therapy products such as human cell purification, viability and cell count, cell culture, transfection, electroporation, Western blot, Flow cytometry, ELISA. Requires detail-orientation, hands-on approach, organization skills, team-orientation, enthusiastic attitude, and adaptability to changing requirements with strong communication skills. Incumbent will possess the ability to work independently with some supervision.

    • Plan, and execute laboratory experiments to support process development activities
    • Analyze process data critically and author technical reports and standard operating procedures
    • Contribute to design and creation of development plans, aiding to process definition, process lock and optimization of process steps
    • Summarize and present data in group meetings and contribute to group discussions
    • Perform cell-based testing including cells isolated from human tissue to understand cell characteristics
    • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebook and documentation
    • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
    • Manage laboratory equipment and supplies
    • Troubleshoot and solve technical problems
    • Review documentation to ensure quality control requirements.
    • Use GLPs, SOPs, processes and company policies when performing all job functions.
    • Work independently as well as with other team members to perform and troubleshoot experiments or assay performance
    • Work with outside collaborators including other biotechnology companies, CROs and CMOs to support process development

    Work Environment

    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Consists of 75% laboratory work and 25% office work
    • Exposure to chemicals used in the lab with proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
    • Ability to stand for a period of time in order to work at laboratory benches
    • Ability to visualize cells and various properties under the microscope
    • This role operates in a professional laboratory and office work environment
    • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
    • This role requires hands-on laboratory work employing aseptic technique, standard cellular, molecular, and microbial process with limited exposure to inorganic and organic compounds
    • Will retrieve samples from liquid nitrogen and subzero freezers using personal protective equipment
    • This role requires work with human cells and tissue

    Required Education and Experience

    • BS in Biology, Chemistry, Biological Engineering, or Chemical Eng, or related discipline with 2-4 yrs of relevant experience or MS in the life sciences field
    • Prefer process development laboratory experience
    • Prefer demonstrated understanding of mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique
    • Prefer T or DC-cell culture experience and basic immunology knowledge
    • Prefer human tissue and cell isolation technique experience
    • Prefer previous cell therapy experience
