    (Senior) Scientist - Cancer Immunology

    The Scientist is responsible for implementing R&D projects to develop cancer immunology based in-vitro model products for life science researchers in academic, government, biotech and pharmaceutical institutions.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    You will identify emerging market needs and important new technical advances that can form the basis for new business opportunities in immunology, cancer immunotherapy and to develop and implement projects consistent with the Company’s goals for sustainable growth. You will design the projects, work with Marketing/Product Line Business Management to develop product specifications and then implement the project. She/he will apply cell culture, immunology and molecular biology expertise to aid in development of immune cells, immunology in-vitro models, cancer immunotherapy screening models and improved authentication, characterization and validation methods. Performance will be evaluated with respect to the scientific merit, overall productivity of the team and business impact of the projects. The incumbent will actively support, comply with and enforce all corporate and program policies and procedures. This position must work and think independently; duties of this position are to be completed under minimal guidance. Discretion in handling assigned responsibilities, including the ability to resolve problems and exercise good judgment while maintaining confidentiality. Functions are to be completed in a timely manner with acceptable quality.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Develop and implement new product development projects to provide value-added cancer immunolog_y _in vitro models and products for basic and translational researchers in academic, industry and government institutions.

    2. Manage activities efficiently and effectively to meet project timelines and performance requirements.

    3. Researches and implements new methods and technologies to improve operations. Anticipate technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.

    4. Makes detailed observations, analyze data and interpret results; prepare technical reports.

    5. Ensure that projects are executed with full scientific rigor to deliver robust products and processes.

    6. As a product development team member effectively represent ACS R&D on the team and establish effective working relationships with members of cross-functional product development and product line strategy teams.

    7. Stay current on new developments in cancer immunology and cell biology relevant to the business. Identify product development and technology opportunities consistent with the candidate’s expertise and background.

    8. Perform other ancillary duties as assigned.

     
    

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Senior Level: A Master’s degree in a life science field and 13-16 years of relevant experience or a PhD degree in a life science field plus 5-8 years of relevant experience is required.

    • Scientist Level: A Master's degree in a life science field and 10-13 years of relevant experience or a PhD degree in a life science field plus 2-5 years of relevant experience is required.

    • Industrial product development experience is highly preferred.

    • Position requires at least 1 year of proven supervisory experience.

    • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and be a proponent of continuous improvement.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong work ethic and an attitude of personal ownership and accountability.

    • Sound scientific judgment and problem solving skills.

    • Broad breath of understanding across immunology relating to cell biology and cancer biology. Knowledge in translational study of immunotherapy.

    • Expertise in immune cells’ functionalities and molecular mechanisms. Experience in culturing and working with immune cells.

    • Works well with limited direct supervision, can effectively manage ambiguity and demonstrated skill in high-level multi-tasking.

    • The ability to convey technical information effectively, provide strong scientific leadership and direction, and foster teamwork in support of business goals with people from multiple levels, departments and disciplines.

    • Excellent networking skills within the research community both internally and externally.

    • The ability to lead by example and act as an agent of change when necessary.

    • Self-starter, motivated and takes initiative; strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; able to work collaboratively with all levels of staff to resolve problems and external partners to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.

    • Strong analytical skills and organized; completes tasks ahead of schedule.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening skills and presentation skills to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.

    • Position-relevant computer experience including Microsoft Office and procurement systems software.

    • Follow all company safety practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and policies.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Industrial product development experience is highly preferred.

    • Current knowledge and hands on experience with a broad range of immune cells and/or cell lines. Experience in working with immune checkpoints and/or genetically modified immune cells such as CAR T cells.

    • Strong hand-on experience in cell immortalization, genome editing 3D culture or tumor microenvironment hand-on experience is highly preferred.

    • Ability to identify business opportunities and relate research programs to the needs of the business.
