  • Responsibilities

    This position represents a Paid Internship opportunity that may lead to a Permanent Full-Time position.

    Purpose: To provide safe transportation to and from public schools and on field trips. To interact with the

    children in a way that supports the Mission Statement of Kids 'R' Kids Schools of Quality Learning.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • { Arrive on time in appropriate attire

    • { Be familiar with and stay current on state childcare regulations, local and federal regulatory agencies, Kids 'R' Kids policies and maintain compliance with all

    • { Comply with federally mandated universal precautions and infection control guidelines and procedures

    • { Direct all questions concerning policy and procedure, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies to the Franchisee, Director, or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager

    • { Be responsible, as directed by the Franchisee, Director, or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager for the daily check of the bus, general maintenance, and fueling the bus. (NEVER FUEL THE BUS WITH CHILDREN ON BOARD)

    • { Be responsible for final check to assure all children have vacated the bus

    • { Keep the bus clean and free of trash. Check daily for items left on bus by children

    • { Keep Franchisee, Director, or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager informed of needed structure or equipment repairs

    • { Stay on schedule when dropping off and picking up children from public school and on field trips

    • { Drive safely and follow speed limit at ALL times.

    • { Refrain from using cell phones while driving bus or van.

    • { Maintain a Transportation Log that will include the following:

    • { Transportation Agreement Form for each child

    • { Health & Emergency Permission Form for each child

    • { Attendance Sheets

    • { Daily Check List for bus

    • { Insurance card

    • { Valid copy of driver's license appropriate for vehicle

    • { Field Trip Agreement Forms

    • { Field Trip Attendance Sheet

    • { Be familiar with the Emergency Evacuation Plan and practice monthly with any class that may ride the bus. (Document)

    • { Know the procedures for fire and weather related emergencies

    • { Know the procedure for locating a missing child from a field trip, public school, or bus

    • { Be knowledgeable of field trip safety

    • { Know the procedure for caring for an injured or ill child while on the bus

    • { Be aware of children with allergies

    • { Be familiar with the rules of behavior for children while on the bus. (Review these rules with the children)

    • { Keep the Franchisee, Director, or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager informed of any problems or issues that arise with children on the bus (Document)

    • { Follow and document the Kids 'R' Kids Discipline Policy

    • { Report and document any unusual behavior to the Franchisee, Director or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager

    • { Report and document any staff member seen using verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, or neglecting a child to the Franchisee, Director, Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager

    • { Report and document any suspected child abuse, whether verbal, physical, sexual or neglect to the Franchisee, Director, or Education Director, or Explorers Club Manager

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • { Meet the minimum requirements set by the state childcare regulatory agency for the position of Bus Driver
    • { Have a valid driver's license appropriate for vehicle (CDL)
    • { Demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivation, self-direction, patience, and the ability to make good judgments, creativity, reliability, and dependability
    • { Provide all medical records, criminal records check, fingerprint clearance, high school diploma, training certificates, and any other forms or information required by the childcare regulatory agency or this school
    • { Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances. Have the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and have the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to safely operate the bus or vehicle and accomplish the job including evacuation of the bus, vehicles, or building during emergencies
    • { Demonstrate the ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved and to respond immediately to any emergency situation
    • { Be willing to participate in continuing education as required by the childcare regulatory agency
    • { Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid Training

    VEHICLE SAFETY RULES

    All students riding the bus and/or van should follow the following guidelines. These rules will help ensure the safety of all students when riding the Kids R Kids #1 TX vehicles.

    1. While getting on and off the bus or van, please stay in line, watch your step, and board one student at a time.
    2. Remain seated with seatbelt on until vehicle is parked and comes to a complete stop.
    3. Please keep feet and belongings out of the walkway.
    4. Students are not allowed to change seats after bus/van is moving.
    5. Be nice to all riders, and allow others to sit with you.
    6. If necessary, the driver may assign seats. Please sit in your assigned seat if you are given one.
    7. Please use low voices, and refrain from yelling or calling out. This can cause distractions to the driver.
    8. No fighting, rough play, and/or bad language allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS.
    9. Do not throw objects inside the bus /van or out of the windows or doors.
    10. Keep all body parts in the bus and not out the window.
    11. Ensure you have all personal belongings before leaving the bus/van.
    12. Do not touch, pull, or lean on the RED emergency handles. The emergency handles should only be touched during an emergency, when asked by the driver and/or teachers.
    13. No food or drinks allowed on the bus, unless approved by Kids ‘R' Kids management.
    14. Never pick up anything you drop around the bus, ALWAYS ask for help.

    Vehicle Evacuation Plan

    In the case of vehicle emergency

    • { Pull the vehicle over to the side of the road
    • { Turn hazard lights on
    • { Open the door that is most accessible to quickly evacuate passengers from the vehicle. (Back Door, Side Door, Emergency Windows)
    • { Have passengers move as far from the road as possible
    • { Driver should make certain everyone has been evacuated before leaving the vehicle
    • { Take the roll and the Transportation Log with you

    If leaving through the back door:

    Have the passengers evacuate from back to front one row at a time.

    If leaving through the side door:

    Have the passengers evacuate from front to back one row at a time.

    If leaving through the emergency windows:

    Push the window out by lifting the latch, and have someone assist the passengers on the outside of the

    vehicle as you help the passengers through the opening.

    Please have the passengers leave all personal belongings behind.

    All KRK drivers must practice vehicle evacuation every 30 days.

    This plan should be posted in every vehicle used for transporting children for all to see.
