Position Overview:
The Workspace Engineer will be responsible for engineering, implementing, securing, and supporting our corporate computing solutions. In this subject matter expert role, the focus will be on managing Windows and macOS imaging, software packaging and deployment, Active Directory, Group Policy, MDM/MAM, and VDI. The position will involve handling escalated issues, optimizing operational processes, and working on projects aimed at addressing security vulnerabilities through research, testing, and re-engineering solutions. Recent projects include managing legacy administrator rights, implementing Intune-backed LAPS, decommissioning Microsoft Silverlight, optimizing Adobe updates, and exploring enterprise-wide printer management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a technical authority in modern corporate computing, overseeing the design, testing, development, and implementation of technology solutions, while managing daily operational support.
- Provide operational support for corporate and store environments, managing trouble tickets, creating documentation, and streamlining processes to reduce escalations.
- Research and propose technology solutions based on operational requirements, addressing potential risks proactively.
- Apply IT security standards in the design and development of both new and existing systems within the organization.
- Make high-impact decisions related to system privileges and access rights.
- Analyze and optimize system configurations, hardware, software, and utilities within the corporate infrastructure.
- Integrate enterprise-wide tools for automation, monitoring, and management of infrastructure technologies.
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot system components, while documenting troubleshooting procedures for complex hardware and software issues.
- Ensure all corporate systems are up-to-date with approved operating systems, firmware versions, and configurations.
- Collaborate with business teams to plan and implement system enhancements that align with growing business needs.
- Provide effort and timeline estimates for projects to team leads and project managers.
- Contribute to the strategic vision of the technical infrastructure services, creating project plans for system installations, upgrades, and software management.
- Prevent unauthorized configuration changes and create audit reports to identify and resolve non-standard configurations.
- Manage inventory and asset tracking for infrastructure components, ensuring clear communication with field engineers and account managers.
- Follow production support models to improve response times and ensure high availability of infrastructure.
- Engineer operational support processes for corporate computing and unified communications, ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
- Stay current with emerging tools and technologies to enhance technical skills and support business growth.
Basic Qualifications:
- Proven experience in building support processes and creating technical support documentation.
- Expertise in Windows and macOS imaging and troubleshooting; experience with light-touch/zero-touch programs like Windows Autopilot is a plus.
- Extensive experience with software packaging and deployment using tools like PowerShell App Deploy Toolkit or similar on device management platforms.
- Strong background in managing and configuring on-prem Active Directory and Azure AD across multiple domains.
- Senior-level engineering experience in modern computing, focusing on operational support.
- Expertise in configuring and optimizing Group Policy across different domains and use cases.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with MDM/MAM solutions for company-issued and BYOD devices (phones, tablets, laptops, desktops), including familiarity with Intune and Jamf.
- Experience managing enterprise environments with 500+ locations.
- Exposure to infrastructure management platforms (e.g., SolarWinds preferred).
- Advanced scripting and automation skills, with hands-on experience in PowerShell and Ansible.
- Experience supporting unified communications in large enterprises, including video conferencing systems (Polycom, Logitech, Crestron), Teams, or Zoom.
- Experience managing and troubleshooting VDI/DaaS environments (Amazon Workspaces preferred).
- Extensive experience with M365 services and licensing, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Office Suite, OneDrive, BitLocker, Power BI, and Defender.
- Familiarity with standard support frameworks such as ITIL.
- Experience in customizing and maintaining user experience monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of compliance standards like PCI-DSS.
