    World Vision is hiring a HEALTH DIRECTOR to serve on Health Team, Program Quality and Impact.

     

    01 AT A GLANCE 

    ROLE: Health Director

    LOCATION: Washington, D.C. USA

    REPORTS TO: Vice President, PQI

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Public Health, related field or equivalent 12+ years of experience. Experience in international relief and development, leadership program management, business development or related area. Must have strong relational and networking skills, demonstrated ability to supervise teams, and significant experience engaging with donors and fundraisers

    WORK AUTHORIZATION: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

    TRAVEL: Up to 30% of time both in development and fragile contexts.

     

    02 THE JOB: World Vision is looking for a Health Director to lead the Health Program Quality & Impact team at WVUS.  The Health Director leads a multi-cultural team overseeing implementation of an over $600 million global portfolio of ongoing USG, Global Fund, foundation, and privately funded projects addressing MNCH, HIV, malaria, WASH, nutrition, family planning, NTDs, TB, polio, health systems strengthening, and capacity building.  The Director ensures excellence in program quality and impact as demonstrated in donor ratings, revenue achievements, and external engagement.   This individual will also be expected to lead the Health team effectively to ensure the following:  

     

    • Strategic leadership, guidance and positioning, high quality startup and implementation, and fully compliant reporting of all Health projects. In collaboration with the senior leader and sector team members, lead strategic thinking and executing of annual business plans that meet priority needs. Ensure field integration and alignment to guide compliance with donor and WVUS regulations and standards, as well as the acquisition of USG, Foundation, multilateral public, corporate and individual donor contributions for programming interventions.
    • Programmatic and fiduciary oversight and high-quality and timely reporting that meets donor requirements/regulations for all public and privately funded WVUS programs. This includes USG, Global Fund, major foundations, and individual donor funded programs and involves significant coordination with donors, donor representatives, partners, field offices, and internal colleagues. 
    • Support of the evidence generation and technical branding work by collaborating with various teams and technical advisors to provide and document evidence generated from field programs to improve the perception and competitiveness of WVUS across all donor segments. Demonstrate how WVUS as an innovative thought leader and evidence-based designer and implementer of programs that reach the most vulnerable in the most fragile contexts. Prove WVUS is a strong voice and advocate for social justice and change on behalf of our program participants.
    • Help carry out our Christian organization’s mission, vision, and strategies. Personify the ministry of World Vision by witnessing to Christ and ministering to others through life, deed, word and sign.

     

    03 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, devotions, chapel, prayer, worship); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within scope of role.

     

    LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT: 

    • Coordinate with the department head to lead, monitor and motivate team members to develop and execute annual strategic documents and work plans that are aligned with performance goals promoting optimal performance.
    • Ensure, in coordination with appropriate leadership, all business planning processes are implemented and produce quality cross-functional plans that guarantee integrated action lines and with all appropriate teams.
    • Collaborate with appropriate leadership to execute core ministry strategies, short- and long-term performance benchmarks, program and division level staffing information and financial needs.
    • Contribute to establishing and maintaining a team culture, staffing, standards and procedures that demonstrates mutual understanding of both donor and field-facing requirements.
    • Establish leadership and personal credibility and implement and maintain a clearly understood chain of authority and accountability, encourage professional development and recognize results.
    • Hire, fire, train, counsel, evaluate, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct supervision.
    • Ensure seamless implementation of systems, structure and staffing needs, and synergy among team goals, budgets, individual workplans, etc. as well as other Resource Development PQI plans.
    • Analyze and recommend changes regarding team staffing levels of direct reports based on changes in opportunities, donor strategies, portfolio size, project or grant complexity, partner/consortia complexity, accountability standards, revenue to cost ratios, industry benchmarks and promotion practices, technology changes, etc.
    • Develop and disseminate team level procedures, operational processes and business tools that promote mission accomplishment and improve/maintain efficiencies and effectiveness.
    • Coordinate with other PQI and IPG teams to ensure cross functional planning and deliverables, as well as harmonized business processes and outcome metrics, etc.

     

    PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND ACQUISITION SUPPORT:

    • Responsible for public and major foundation revenue drivers of ongoing projects and related utilization of cash match and indirect cost recovery.
    • Provide oversight and management of grant and private portfolios ensuring strategic delivery on donor obligations and meeting program commitments.
    • Create guidance and ensure risk mitigation efforts are incorporated and updated throughout life of projects.
    • Regularly engage with National Directors and Regional Leaders to improve collaboration and resolve challenges.
    • Contribute to and partner with teams across WVUS to ensure integrated programming alignment occurs between sponsorship, government and private cash portfolios in alignment with Partnership priorities.
    • Support the development of private fundraising offerings and promotion to donors. Collaborate closely with Philanthropy donor representatives to ensure optimization of donor facing collateral, tools and reporting.  Ensure team provides required support to WV fundraisers with the insight, training, and resources necessary to ensure that they are able to articulate the strategy and key benefits of WV's work related to the sector portfolio.  Participate, as needed, in private and public donor facing meetings and conferences. 
    • Ensure the sector team work cross-functionally with the grant acquisition Resource Development Unit (RDU) to ensure accountability and oversight of the public and privately funded portfolios, collaborative and integrated actions for positioning with public and major foundation donors, technical branding of World Vision with all donors and support of new proposals, extensions and follow on awards.
    • Conduct strategic external engagement with high profile public and private donors. Lead and/or facilitate annual conferences with USAID and Global Fund and present at private funding events.
    • Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as a member of a team.
    • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.

    05 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Public Health, related field or equivalent work experience 12+ years) strongly preferred.  In addition, requires 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience in international relief and development, leadership program management, business development or related area. Must have strong relational and networking skills, demonstrated ability to supervise teams, and significant experience engaging with donors and fundraisers

     

    06 ADDITIONAL SKILLS WE ARE INTERESTED IN: Experience overseeing or providing program management support to USAID and Global Fund Health portfolios.  Familiarity with donor leadership and demonstrated capacity to build strong relationships.
