  • Responsibilities

    Under general supervision, responsible for managing database environment and infrastructure in a manner that ensures data availability, confidentiality, integrity, manageability, security and recovery.

    • Designs, builds, implements, tests and maintains databases. environment and infrastructure.
    • Plans and conducts structured testing of database designs to confirm functionality and performance.
    • Monitors and tunes database environment and infrastructure to meet business needs.
    • Evaluates, selects and implements technology and techniques to enhance database environment and infrastructure.
    • Manages database code deployments and upgrades.
    • Develops, implements and maintains documentation, policies, standards, procedures and guidelines necessary to effectively administer and ensure the security of the database environment.
    • Develops, tests, implements and maintains backup strategy and recovery plans.
    • Collaborates with other IT teams in support of workload automation.
    • Creates, analyzes and reports on database metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Maintains and configures user system access levels based on established Role Based Access Controls.
    • Collaborates with support vendor as needed to ensure database environment reliability.
    • Provides tier 3 and above support to the Help Desk.

    Required Skills

    Required

    • In-depth skills and knowledge in SQL services, included but not limited to the ability to run SQL server complete, differential, and transaction log backups.
    • In-depth knowledge in SQL services to include but not limited to indexing and performance tuning.
    • In-depth knowledge of and ability to install, test, and implement database software servers and database management systems and upgrades.
    • In-depth knowledge of and ability to perform database capacity planning.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products (Windows and domain architecture), and network and domain architecture.
    • In-depth knowledge of database servers and engines – layout, design, performance factors, data management.
    • In-depth knowledge of and ability to write stored procedures, complex queries, correlated/nested sub-queries, derived tables, and Common Table Expressions (CTE).
    • Strong knowledge with XML and interpreted languages, C# is preferred.
    • Strong knowledge in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) with the ability to design complex ETL packages for extracting and loading data to the acquisition, conforming, integration, and dimension layers.
    • In-depth knowledge of and ability to implement database security elements to support minimal necessary access requirements.
    • In-depth knowledge of and ability to link database servers to support complete SQL query scripts.
    • In-depth knowledge of referential database integrity and normalization.
    • Strong knowledge of the principles and methods of all phases of systems development lifecycle methodology.
    • Produces work that is accurate and complete.
    • Produces the appropriate amount of work.

    Required Experience

    Required

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or closely related field; and
    • At least five years of T-SQL experience in design and support of Microsoft SQL Server; and
    • At least five years’ experience in stored procedures, triggers, query and performance tuning; and
    • At least five years’ experience in administering high transactional, high availability large database systems; or
    • Equivalent combination of education and

     

    Preferred

    • Experience in a managed care health plan environment.
    • Experience with QNXT claims processing system
    • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field.
