    Cambridge International Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team in Alexandria, VA to support US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Qualified candidates must be a US Citizen able to obtain a CBP background investigation.

    This position serves to support Cybersecurity efforts in engineering and C&A at a senior level. Support includes independent activity and technical team leadership of Cybersecurity efforts ranging from HBSS support, ACAS support, test scripting, testing, reporting, hardening, bringing systems into compliance, and documenting SOP's or other security artifacts. The primary technologies that will be utilized are Windows Server and related products, Cisco related products, and Cybersecurity tools. At times, testing and engineering could also include Linux, Oracle, PL-SQL, MS-SQL, IIS, and Apache.

    To complete this work the ideal candidate will need a diverse technical background and experience in DHS 4300, NIST risk management framework. Additionally, ideal candidates must have the knowledge and skills to manage multiple projects, keep track of and identify new tasks, and adjust existing tasks and expectations as projects evolve. Strong analytical skills, written, and verbal communication skills are all necessary as researching and presenting information in a clear format for different audiences is critical. Furthermore, individuals must have the proven social and interpersonal skills to coordinate with a team of professionals who are both technical and non-technical to keep everyone on task and progressing forward, and also ensure the team maintains a positive and collaborative relationship with external stakeholders.

    The Cybersecurity Engineer will:

    • Advise on security considerations in applications systems procurement or development, implementation, operation and maintenance, and disposal activities.
    • Assist in the determination of an appropriate level of security commensurate with the impact level.
    • Facilitate the development and maintenance of Security Authorization and ISCM documentation for all systems under their responsibility to include, System Characterization Documents, System Security Plans, and Information System Contingency Plans.
    • Participate in risk assessments to periodically re-evaluate sensitivities of the system, risks, and mitigation strategies.
    • Aid with the management of remediation actions and POAM updates to ensure timely remediation of security deficiencies.
    • Support the assessment of system configuration changes for impact on security posture through participation in the configuration control board processes.
    • Notify the responsible officials of any suspected incidents in a timely manner, and assist in the investigation of incidents, as necessary.
    • Oversee training, policies, and practices, including audits, to ensure systems are securely operated.
    • Document and communicate policies, queries, vulnerabilities, and current state of the system.
    • Implement and monitor information security requirements, policies, and compliance.
    • Review white-papers, standards, security policies, and industry best practices and provide expertise on how the agency can ensure compliance with new security requirements.
    • Apply current computer science technologies to the design, development, evaluation, and integration of computer systems and networks to maintain system security and provide information assurance.
    • Provide security engineering and integration support involving a wide range of security issues such as architectures, electronic data traffic, and network access.
    • Use encryption technology; penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies; and information technology security research.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • Bachelors degree, Masters degree highly preferred
    • 5-7 years of DHS 4300 experience
    • 5-7 years of compliance testing experience
    • CISSP certification
    • CEH certification preferred
    • Current CBP Background Investigation or the ability to obtain one

  • Qualifications
    • Applicable candidates should have a minimum 2 years of experience in standard project management practices, including project scope, budget, schedule, goals, technical and functional requirements. Scope and budget balance with customer needs and expectations from design through commissioning and long-term support.
    • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
    • Must possess basic computer skills including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet and email applications. Will be required to utilize software to develop visual presentations to relay complex information to customers.
