    Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is seeking a Programmer/Analyst at our Salem, Virginia corporate headquarters.  This position is responsible for providing programming solutions and maintaining all digital data systems as assigned by the Information Systems Manager.  The Programmer Analyst must consult with the I.S. Manager regularly to discuss current system status and problems as they arise.  This position is also responsible for producing and keeping clear, concise and supportable code to ensure that applications come to life in a functional, flawless, and efficient manner.  Seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in computer programming, computer science, or a related field.  3+ years of programming experience, plus experience with the Microsoft Office Stack.  Database proficiency in Microsoft SQL.  Process and data management experience using Microsoft SharePoint.  Familiar with, but not limited to, the following Web service APIs:  SOAP, Rest, XML-RPC, JSON-RPC; "consuming" data provided by an API.  Knowledge in the programming languages of Pyton, C#, .NET, Java and possibly PowerShell.  Experience with Middleware Tools, such as Simego and/or Infomatica, helpful. 

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision; strong, independent work ethic. 
    • Must have a practical understanding of Network support/troubleshooting; able to support and maintain Carter Machinery I.S. production applications. 
    • Demonstrated knowledge of PC Software setup and configuration.
    • Able to maintain and improve existing standards for application design, programming, and documentation. 
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Develop and improve interfaces between in-house written and commercially available software. 
    • Provide accurate estimates on all assignments of time and cost involved in order to determine cost-effectiveness. 
    • Develop and maintain programs that provide a high level of performance. 
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Able to collaborate with the Digital Transformation Office, and user departments in determining the most beneficial solution to their future needs and ongoing maintenance requests.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 
    • Able to work hours required to meet customer demand.

     

    Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.  Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight.
