    MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The Instructional Designer is housed in TCC Online department and reports to the Director.  This position provides analysis of learning needs and systematic development of instruction for online learning. 

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Lead and work directly with subject matter experts and teams in the design and development of online/hybrid courses in a wide array of disciplines.  Leverage the Learning Management System to create scalable, user-focused solutions. Those solutions should be driven by instructional design methodologies and processes to support formal, informal, and multi-media enhancement that include educational best practice recommendations (takes into account design, scope, budget, and implementation timelines).  Understanding OER, accessibility (508), and universal design. Able to complete work independently including the communication, implementation and adoption of methodologies and best practices by the learning organization. Work closely with the faculty and staff of the assigned academic divisions and other areas relative to the needs of TCC Online. Consult with faculty on enhancing online courses through: pedagogical improvements, course design that contributes to online community, training faculty on the managerial aspects of teaching online, and the technical design of online courses.

    • Research, identify, recommend, evaluate, and coordinate pilots for the investigation of new instructional methods, technologies in teaching, learning, and instructional design. Consult with faculty on enhancing online courses through: pedagogical improvements, course design that contributes to online community, training faculty on the managerial aspects of teaching online, and the technical design of online courses.

    • Work closely with the faculty and staff of the assigned academic divisions and other areas relative to the needs of TCC Online.

    • Other duties may be required as they relate to the position as assigned.

      

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Distance Learning, Educational Technology, or a related area in education, and three years of experience in design and training. 

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledgeable in effective pedagogy and andragogy, learning theory, and systematic instructional design theory with a focus on quality online course design and development. Knowledge and experience in project management to plan, design, and review curriculum. Excellent consulting, coaching, and client skills.  Experience teaching, training, and using learning management systems. Ability to quickly assimilate the content and objectives/outcomes of several diverse disciplines in order to efficiently develop courseware for online courses. Experience teaching, training, and using learning management systems (Canvas experience preferred) to develop and design quality courses. Knowledge and experience in working with quality rubrics for effective online course design and delivery. Knowledge and experience in using a wide variety of software and hardware tools related to authoring, courseware design, and web development for developing online course materials. Ability to meet established deadlines. Strong interpersonal, written, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member. Skilled in the use of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and email.
