ABOUT THE ROLE

Verisk is seeking a software engineer intern to join its Weather Solutions division in Lexington, MA. This small growing team is responsible for developing and maintaining products and services that aid clients in the insurance, restoration, and related industries in effectively responding to natural catastrophe events. You will interact closely with software engineers, scientists, product managers, and other product developers.

ABOUT THE DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

•                    Work with software development team leads and other software developers to write, review, and maintain code in a code base primarily written in, but not limited to, Python and C++

•                    Participate in daily standup meetings as well as ad-hoc project or other development meetings related to new or ongoing software development projects

•                    Work with software development team leads and other software developers as well as product and project managers to ensure software development work issues are clearly and sufficiently scoped

•                    Pursue new and innovative ways to solve programming challenges that help personal and team development stay at the cusp of scientific and programmatic concepts

Qualifications

ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU CAN EXCEL IN THIS ROLE

• •All candidates must have eligibility to work permanently in the U.S.

• Possesses excellent problem-solving skills

• Ability to engage in a team of cross functional engineers

• Pursuing a bachelors degree in math, computer science, engineering, or physical science (physics, atmospheric science, earth science, meteorology, etc.)

• Experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Scripting: Python, PHP, or JavaScript / node.js

• Low-level Development: C, C++, or FORTRAN

• Experience with Linux / UNIX / shell scripting.

• Experience with cloud-based environments, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS), and databases (MySQL or PostgresSQL) a plus; not required
