    This Flavor Lab Technician assist Flavor Chemists with the formulation of selected flavors specifically developed for customers, including but not limited to following: weigh, mix and compound flavors, prepare samples, using written and verbal work instructions in English directed by Flavor Chemists to assist with the creation/modification/duplication of natural, natural & artificial, and artificial flavorings that may be GMO free or organic compliant, for a variety of foods and beverages that are cost effective to the customer. Participate in flavor testing, taste panels and other sensory evaluations to develop organoleptic skills and perform general laboratory functions to support the Flavor Development and Innovation Team.

    PLEASE NOTE:  This position will start at our Northeast Philadelphia location and eventually relocate to our corporate headquarters in South Philadelphia.

    Required Skills

    HOW YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME: 

    To perform these various job functions, this position requires the ability to accurately weigh and mix dry or liquid ingredients; operate various types of equipment; understand the impact of temperature effects, solubility and miscibility properties of ingredients; possess organoleptic capabilities to effectively evaluate and taste flavors; must be able to taste all products including those with sugar or meat based solutions. Position also requires not having any food allergens as there will be exposure to ingredients/products that include but not limited to soy, wheat, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, seafood, shellfish, eggs, salt, sugar, beef, chicken, chocolate and cheese; and possess the ability read/write/interpret technical requirements, procedures and regulations in English.

    To be successful, this position must execute and organize batches efficiently, collaborate well with the Flavor Chemists for product knowledge, demonstrate initiative, follow all safety and operating practices and procedures. All of our team members are expected to demonstrate professional behaviors and practices of cooperation.

    • Ability to read, write, comprehend and interpret documents, regulations, briefs, formulations, specifications, operating procedures, manuals, company processes and forms in the English language.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including the Metric System, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals to understand strength of solutions and measuring proportions of raw materials, solutions, flavoring ingredients
    • Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
    • Ability to recognize a problem and conduct root cause analysis
    • Ability to ascertain and ensure work environment is clean and safe at all times
    • Ability to identify why product loss occurs, the dangers of Flavor ingredients, Flashpoints
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and schedule form to then apply logical principles

    Required Experience

    ABOUT YOU:

    • A scientific degree is required, two or four year in Food Science or a related science (Chemistry, Biology)
    • You must have a demonstrated ability to use physical senses to evaluate a full variety of raw materials, flavors and market products
    • Having flexibility to perform various duties, meet deadlines and multitask will be a valuable tool in this position.
    • Excellent communication skills will always be a key competency within our organization
