JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Specialist II, provides accurate and timely input of hours and earnings for union employees. Performs duties to include: auditing timekeeping records for compliance, maintaining time and attendance records and providing excellent customer service. Serves as the first point of contact for field resources. Ensures adherence to all Federal and State laws and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prior payroll experience - calculating payroll or multiple payrolls weekly
- Administer accurate vacation accruals and payments
- Research and manual calculation of vacation accruals
- Able to calculate retro payments and adjustments
- Cross trained in other areas of production payroll
- Administer deduction payments and reporting
- Knowledge of multiple union agreements
- Ability to create general ledger updates
- Able to create reporting in Kronos
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with FMLA, HR, HWP and field operations support staff
- Maintain accurate and timely records for audit and controls
- Maintain knowledge of various union contracts and any contract changes regarding payroll
- Work closely with other Payroll Specialists to assist with various payroll duties
- Follow all procedures and controls set up by department to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Perform special projects and reports as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum two (2) years payroll experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with exceptional Excel skills
- Demonstrate organizational skills including ability to prioritize work load
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain information in appropriate channels with specific attention to confidentially
- Demonstrate attention to detail with excellent time management skills
- Display critical logic, reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced/high volume environment with regular and inflexible deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Payroll experience in trucking or distribution industries
- Previous usage of Kronos and Oracle applications
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is preferred
- Worked as a Team player in prior jobs
- Experience with large number of employees in multi-state environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
