ABOUT US
A Yancy Life brings innovative blended math, science, and reading assistance program that combines classroom instruction with computer-aided learning. Our standards mastery program is the basis of Yancy’s instruction in English/Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science. Yancy staff uses researched based lessons and assessments for the basis of their primary mode of instruction -- rich face-to-face 1:1 and small group instruction. The Texas version of Study Island is aligned with the standards in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Subjects targeted for this program are the Reading strand of English and Language Arts, Science, and Mathematics, for grades 1 – 12. In its instruction for the pre-kindergarten level, Yancy will focus primarily on the Emergent Literacy (Reading) and Mathematics skill domains from the Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines.
Daily instruction in all content areas will also follow process standards, i.e., student expectations that relate to the skills of the content area. Process skills and content attainment in Reading and Math will be assessed weekly using assessments in context, not in isolation, allowing for a more integrated and authentic ongoing assessment in these content areas. This short-term assessment ensures that Yancy’s academic assistance program follows the grade-level standards or provides remediation for students to rise to grade level. It ultimately results in our pupils reaching proficiency on their school’s annual proficiency assessment.
