    Job Description

    This role is in the analytics department of the YouGov's Scientific Research Group (SRG) in the Bay Area of California. SRG runs custom surveys and trackers in technology, politics, health, and other projects with complex client needs.

    YouGov is seeking a technically sophisticated person for its Analytics group, located either in Redwood City or San Francisco. We are looking for an individual combining programming skills in R and Python with an interest in survey data and advanced analytics. Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment where innovative solutions to marketing research, financial, and political problems are developed. The successful candidate will use their programming skills to implement data processing systems and data pipelines, support internal and external clients in their data collection and data analysis projects, and contribute to the existing R and Python codebase. You will join a team that has used R, Python, Mercurial/Git, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, Hive, R/Shiny, and related tools to provide clients with custom data solutions.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • High level of proficiency in R  for data management and analysis.
    • Knowledge of applied data analysis and statistics/econometrics, especially sampling theory, hypothesis testing, and probability.
    • Programming ability in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
    • Commitment and attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Background in statistics, computer science, social science, or another quantitative background.

     

      Desired

    • Knowledge of Linux/OS X development and system tools (version control systems, regular expressions, command line tools).
    • Understanding of relational databases (especially PostgreSQL).
    • Experience developing and maintaining R packages or R/Shiny applications.
    • Knowledge of analytics and machine learning tools like discrete choice, classification, imputation/missing data, hierarchical models.
