    Job Summary:

    The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating one or more types of heavy machinery, such as bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks and front-loaders, as part of the earth moving operations located at an environmental remediation site our company is working on. In addition, the candidate selected for this role will also have the ability to perform minor maintenance and equipment repair on those types of heavy machinery. Graduates of DAS-approved apprenticeship programs are encouraged to apply.

    Responsibilities:

    Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to company and industry standards; Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment to ensure proper functionality;

    Exhibit skill, coordination and awareness to operate heavy equipment, within a safe, precise and efficient manner;

    Possess stamina in operating heavy equipment for long periods of time, with continuous attention to detail and safety;

    Possess knowledgeable of limitations of heavy equipment, including load weights to not overload / offset equipment center of gravity;

    Locate underground utilities and obstructions, such as pipes and wires, prior to commencement of work; confirm necessary precautions have been taken and that no conflicts exist with above and below ground utilities;

    Read and understand cut and fill stakes to align and position equipment appropriately;

    Work closely with ground crew through hand-signals, or radio communications to align and position equipment appropriately;

    Follow project plans and blueprints to execute tasks accurately; Communicate with construction team members to coordinate work activities; Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations on the construction site; Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities; Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the construction industry;

    At least 2 years of experience in the environmental, or earthwork construction industry;

    Astute knowledge of all applicable construction safety procedures and guidelines; Ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment;

    Ability to wear personal protective equipment, when necessary;

    Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; Certification of training in heavy equipment operation, a plus;

    Valid CA driver's license and clean driving record, required;

    Class A commercial driver’s license, a plus;

    Oilfield operator experience, a plus;

    40-hour Hazwoper certification, a plus;

    Ability to lift at least 50 pounds in weight;

    Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.

    Working Hours:

    8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday - Friday

    Compensation:

    $25.00- $45.00 per hour DOE, for this full-time, non-exempt position.

    Benefits:

    40 hours annually of paid vacation time, accrued at a rate of 0.77 weekly;

    40 hours of paid sick time allotted after 60 days of employment;

    401(K) with an annual company match up to 4% after 1 year of employment.
