System Safety Engineer - Aerospace Company
COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc. (ESAero) is a growing aerospace company in San Luis Obispo, providing various services which include, rapid system development, on-demand niche engineering, hands-on development/testing, electric aircraft design and small UAS aerospace system manufacturing.
JOB SUMMARY:
The System Safety Engineer will develop and support system safety assessment activities of unique all-electric and hybrid-electric aircraft configurations, while being tasked with team leadership capabilities, delegation and coordination of safety assessments tasks with other employees. Responsibilities include qualitative and quantitative assessments of system safety per standard aerospace industry practices, such as functional hazard assessment, failure mode/ effects analysis and lifetime reliability analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Support the development of system and item level requirements documents;
Assist in the development of safety assessment process planning;
Develop and conduct safety assessment process aircraft development activities;
Coordinate task delegation and execution with a small engineering team;
Regularly report on progress to Program Manager;
Collaborate with 3rd party engineers;
Interface with industry experts regarding safety assessment and aircraft certification.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred;
At least 5 years’ relevant engineering experience;
Prior experience with safety analysis of aircraft systems to include:
Familiarity with aircraft development safety analysis processes to include FHA, PSSA, CCA, FTA, FMEA, ZSA;
Familiarity with aircraft quantitative analysis to include basic component and system reliability analysis; MTTFF, MTBF; failure rates;
Familiarity with FAA regulations pertaining to the aerospace industry;
Familiarity with system risk management strategies.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
Preferred experience with dedicated system reliability analysis tools to include ReliaSoft reliability assessment toolkit, or similar; reliability block diagrams; reliability phase diagrams;
Experience with electric aircraft propulsion technology;
Familiarity with SAE aerospace recommended practice guidelines and methods;
Familiarity with ASTM aircraft certification means of compliance;
Familiarity with software and hardware design assurance processes DO-178C; DO-254;
MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.
COMPENSATION:
$80K - $120K Base salary DOE, plus health benefits, 401K annual company matched; flexible paid time off, relocation assistance.
LOCATION:
San Luis Obispo, CA (not a remote position).
