    JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the V.P. of Engineering and New Product Development, the Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with an Electrical Engineer to design the mechanical component of pickups, amplifiers, effects pedals and music-related products and execute them in an innovative and well-thought-out manner, effectively applying engineering principles, CAD technology and hands-on activities.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Apply mechanical design principles of components and systems (assembly level), including necessary analysis, to specified projects;

    Create technical data packages, including models, drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs);

    Support prototype and production builds to include, assembly, integration, manufacturing, and testing/verification of subsystems and systems;

    Develop designs in accordance with Design for Manufacturing methods and tools to create cost efficient design solutions;

    Present technical designs to teams and customers with supporting analysis;

    Directly participate in and contribute to the completion of specified projects;

    Independently determine and develop approaches to determine solutions issues and potential problems;

    Apply industrial design direction to mechanical execution to achieve an esthetically functional product;

    Generate first article reports, upon receipt of prototype and production parts;

    Work across departments as a key collaborator to help guide designs;

    Work with suppliers, customers and musicians to internalize feedback into improved designs;

    Ensure work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives;

    Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, required;

    At least 3 years of experience designing mass produced products (plastics, sheet metal, castings);

    At least 3 years of 3D CAD modelling experience, required;

    At least 3 years of 2D CAD drawing experience and knowledge of best dimensioning practices, required;

    Proficiency with Solidworks, preferred; PDM experience a plus;

    Familiar with standard engineering concepts, practices and procedures;

    Knowledge of material properties;

    Familiarity with ERP systems, a plus; (internal ERP system, Made2Manage);

    Familiarity with guitar, bass, other string instrument, music, even if a casual player, a plus;

    Familiarity with musical recording methods, software (DAW), audio interfaces, effects pedals, live rigs, a plus;

    Astute oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

    Exceptional time management, attention to detail, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving and follow-through skills;

    Ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment.

    COMPENSATION:

    $80,000 - $120,000 annual base salary, for this full-time, exempt position

    BENEFITS:

    10 days paid vacation during years 1- 5 and increasing to 15 days thereafter on an accrued basis

    WORKING HOURS:

    8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday – Friday – with flexibility 

    LOCATION:

    Santa Barbara, CA.  Hybrid position – following training period, at least 3 days working in the office and the remainder remotely, if desired.
