    Pacific Coast Well Drilling has earned significant recognition in the California groundwater development industry, specializing in providing deep-well water turnkey drilling solutions for municipal, agricultural and large-scale commercial projects.  In addition, its vertically integrated pump division, Precision Hydro, offers a complete range of high-quality pump services, including system design, new installation, as well as complete monitoring and maintenance programs. 

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Drilling Foreman, The Driller will assist the Drill Rig Hands and Drilling Foreman in completing the water well drilling operations of each project.   The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively operate the rig and other technical equipment, in a fast-paced environment with little supervision and be able to work independently and with other crew members.   In addition, the role requires the lifting of heavy objects and extensive physical tasks and can involve 8-12 hour work days on a job site, typically in remote locations and requiring out of town travel.

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform drilling operations at maximum efficiency / capacity at all times;

    Operate machinery and equipment in proper manner by following company standard operating procedures and best practices;

    Perform job in an efficient, safe and cost-effective manner, according to the project schedule;

    Follows instructions of Drilling Foreman and Senior Drilling Manager;

    Maintain safe and orderly jobsite conditions; utilizes appropriate safety equipment at all times; maintain equipment and supplies in an organized manner and good working condition;

    Work to project schedule and successfully complete operational tasks to meet / exceed timeline and with budget efficiently and strategically;

    Arrive at jobsite and is ready to perform work on time; informs Drilling Foreman of scheduling conflicts and personal emergencies with as much advance notice as possible;

    Identify potential problems in the field and resolve them; inform Drilling Foreman of any potential delay, cost, or safety issues;

    Mentor and train junior personnel;

    Submit daily time cards accurately and on time;

    Immediately inform Drilling Foreman of any jobsite injury and perform appropriate actions, according to law and company policy;

    Supports other crews as required and fill in with assigned task as required;

    Generates field data and reports as required;

    Responsible for acquiring authorization of expenses from Drilling Foreman;

    Monitor performance of equipment and informs Drilling Foreman of required maintenance;

    Share technical experience and field knowledge with Drilling Foreman and improve technical operations where possible;

    Use issued equipment solely for company business and within company policy / procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    At least 1 year of drilling/rig operator experience, (rig hand experience does not qualify);

    Ability to safely operate field equipment and machinery;

    Valid VA Driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation and at least 21 years of age (due to automobile insurance requirements);

    Knowledge of industry standards and best practices;

    Knowledge of California geological conditions, a plus;

    Experience supervising, managing and mentoring junior personnel, a plus;

    Welding knowledge, a plus;

    Class B or A driver’s license, a plus.

    WORKING HOURS:

    12 hour shifts, 7 days a week for up to two weeks, in addition to travel and out of town work, which can include an overnight work schedule, when necessary. 

    COMPENSATION:

    $23.00 per hour + overtime this non-exempt, full-time position.
