Assistant Systems Engineering Manager
About the role:
The Assistant Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers in the completion of client and internal engineering projects as well as performing as an individual contributor on technical tasks/projects. Duties include supervising engineering staff, resource planning, and enabling the team to succeed in delivering exceptional service to clients.
What you’ll be doing:
- Perform hands-on Engineering tasks and maintain billable utilization targets.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering leadership to manage the delivery of engineering projects to ZAG clients.
- Partner with internal teams to coordinate requests and requirements in a timely manner.
- Prioritize the team workload by managing schedules, setting realistic deadlines, & distributing equal load between engineers.
- Develop, coach, hire and mentor engineers on the team.
- Manage internal team processes to help the team operate smoothly and interface effectively with the rest of ZAG.
- Work with internal engineering teams and set clear department goals to ensure the team achieves extraordinary results.
- Improve operations by recommending changes in policies and procedures.
- Accomplish engineering and ZAG mission of “Enabling our Clients to Succeed.”
- Conduct team WIG calls (Wildly Important Goals) and 1:1’s with the team.
- Manage ticket escalations and ensure that SLAs are met.
- Participate in Engineering On-call rotation.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business/Management or related field
- MCSE, MCITP, and MCP and/or
- CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, VCP
- Minimum 6+ years in various roles that demonstrate advanced knowledge of network engineering design, installation, and support.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows 2019/2016/2012 server, O365, Azure, SharePoint, VMware ESX, etc.
- Strong knowledge of networking concerning configuration, troubleshooting regarding SDWAN, VLANS, Firewalls, Switches, and general Infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Cisco suite of products (Meraki, Stealthwatch, ACI, Umbrella a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, WINS Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
- Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other line of business managers and executives.
- Organizational skills for keeping track of various projects, employees and schedules.
- Able to identify opportunities for improvement and drive changes.
- Effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical collaborators across functions and levels
- Passionate about coaching and leading other engineers.
- Experience with change management and experience delivering large projects affecting many teams.
