    ZEPHER FLIGHT LABORATORIES, INC. (ZFL) IS DEVELOPING THE “Z1”, A 55 POUND, 14-FOOT SPAN VTOL DRONE THAT IS POWERED BY HYDROGEN FUEL CELLS. ZFL RECEIVED A GOVERNMENT CONTRACT IN 2020 TO CREATE THE Z1 PROTOTYPE, AND A SECOND CONTRACT IN 2022 TO PRODUCTIZE AND DELIVER TEST ARTICLES TO THE U.S. MILITARY. WE ARE LOOKING FOR ENGINEERS, TECHNICIANS, AND OPERATORS WHO ARE ABLE AND WILLING TO PUSH THROUGH THIS NEXT PHASE WITH US.     SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    The Systems Engineer is responsible for life cycle development for ZFL products. The Systems Engineer functions as the architect for all integrated unmanned systems, including designing and integrating mechanical, navigational, propulsion, electrical and aviation systems, as well as managing payload interfaces. The Systems Engineer coordinates between program management and technical execution.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND SKILLS:

    • BS in Engineering, such as Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering

    • 5 years in the unmanned aircraft industry

    • Strong understanding of military and civil drone avionics and payloads

    • Serve as lead architect to understand, analyze, and execute system design requirements for unmanned systems of moderate to high complexity.

    • Experience with Systems Engineering practices and principles, including writing, organizing, and verifying requirements.

    • Identify project functional requirements and risk areas, and coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system.

    • Apply advanced understanding of manufacturing processes to ensure designs are technically and commercially viable and can be reliably manufactured within cost targets.

    • Develop design specification documentation, establish test plan/procedures, and develop and deliver design review packages.

    • Perform and monitor tests, document outcomes, and confirm design requirements. 

    • Troubleshoot and/or conduct root cause analysis of identified deficiencies.  Retest and perform final acceptance actions.  Assess/analyze operational events.  Investigate equipment failures and diagnoses faulty operation. Make design and/or procedural changes or recommendations.

    • Prepare technical status reports and lead technical discussions at project review sessions with customers.

    • Submit metrics and progress reports to management and to customers as required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience with reliability and trend analysis
    • Experience in failure modes and mechanisms related to the assembly, test, and repair of complex electromechanical systems
    • Experience leading the development and execution of test plans for critical subsystems and integrated systems, including those for vehicle level acceptance testing.
    • Hands-on experience building, prototyping, and testing complex unmanned systems
