Our mission is to improve indoor air quality by monitoring environmental factors and reducing vaping by teens and young adults with better prevention and deterrence. We have developed the industry's first wireless vape detector that is focused on serving middle and high schools globally. We sell direct and through a growing channel network to schools and commercial organizations globally.
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER DETAILS:
Zeptive is looking for a talented and experienced manufacturing engineer as a core member of our growing team based in Andover, MA. The candidate will be a self-motivated professional with proven experience and an outstanding track record as a manufacturing engineer. In addition to being an excellent communicator, our ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong leadership skills with an exceptional cross-functional approach to solving business problems.
THIS IS A UNIQUE POSITION FOR A MANUFACTURING ENGINEER WITH AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BACKGROUND. THE ROLE IS DESIGNED FOR SOMEONE WITH DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE DRIVING GROWTH WITHIN A DYNAMIC, ACTIVELY SCALING BUSINESS. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL UTILIZE A COMBINATION OF ENGINEERING, OPERATIONAL, BUSINESS LEADERSHIP AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS THROUGHOUT EACH DAY.
Key products: Wireless air monitoring systems focused on detecting airborne contaminants, including vape aerosol. Active product development that includes integrated / distributed IoT sensor platforms developed the industry’s leading designers and implementers of advanced IoT sensor systems. These are unique battery powered and wired products that require deep technical understanding of its power, connectivity, and sensor packages for detection that surpass the capabilities of systems available in the market today.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the operational relationship with external resources such as supply chain management and contract manufacturers
- Act as the primary engineering and day-to-day business contact for vendors, working closely with the supply chain team
- Drive the relationship with all contract manufacturers including production of fully assembled electrical, mechanical, and sensor products
- Drive analysis and business decision for outsourcing (location, selection, and configuration of vendor supply chain relationship and handoffs)
- Designing and implementing production plans to reach monthly, quarterly and annual production targets
- Working closely with the design and supply chain teams to manage component obsolescence, alternate components selection, and qualifying new vendors
- Lead, manage, and provide technical ownership of all production and manufacturing activities
- Work closely with the finance team in areas such as: inventory management, costing, and contract negotiation
- Provide ownership of all BOMs, SOPs, work instructions, etc. from the time they are released from design engineering, throughout the product life cycle
- Own the design and implementation of internal manufacturing processes such as final assembly and test (as applicable), lot testing
- Provide engineering support for internal operational processes such as refurbishing equipment, fulfillment, returns
- Provide production leadership across all of the company’s emerging Lean Manufacturer efforts including value stream mapping, kanban/pull systems, 5S, incremental process design and improvement, continuous improvement with internal and external teams
- Identify, implement, manage, and engage in continuous improvement for processes such as shipping/receiving, inventory management, etc.
- Write and submit engineering change requests and notifications for approval.
- Update production documents as needed such as BOMs, SOPs, work instructions and checklists for products as needed
- Responsible for investigating the root cause of failed units identified during manufacturing
- Responsible for tracking any failure identified during manufacturing, and driving these issues to a timely resolution
- Support Software Quality Assurance Testing for new firmware/software releases for existing products as needed
- Provide engineering leadership for the selection, implementation, and day-to-day use of key manufacturing software packages including ERP, PLM, and custom systems developed and used by Zeptive
- Support CE testing and UL approvals for products
- Clearly communicate goals and objectives to co-workers
- Assures conformance to product specifications and work instructions
- Cultivating collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, consultants and vendors
- Develop and share weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual production reports
- Monitor and measure inventory quantities regularly including physical and cycle-counts
- Support & mentor team members
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful experience working as a manufacturing engineer of a technology product for a high growth business with demonstrated track record
- Broad and deep experience in growth businesses; driving manufacturing engineering and operational excellence throughout the value chain
- Demonstrated experience in successful Lean Manufacturing implementations. Strong understanding and utilization of continuous improvement practices
- Desire and demonstrated ability to continuously learn and display competence in a dynamic environment
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
- Desire to work in a rapidly evolving startup environment, where creating and implementing new ideas to support growth is a continuous daily activity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel,Google Docs applications, database systems and Airtable experience a plus
- Expertise in PCB design packages, such as Autodesk Fusion 360, EAGLE, PADS, or Altium
- Experience with NetSuite ERP system a plus
- Experience with PLM systems a plus
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a customer centric approach

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree electrical engineering
- A minimum of 7 years experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing engineering techniques and best practices
- Capacity to manage various projects and work to tight deadlines
- Excellent negotiation and leadership skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in a small business and/or startup environment
