With research pointing to signs of an accelerating demand for business-to-consumer and business-to-business shipping, brothers Ashot and Vazgen Avakyan saw an opportunity in trucking. They decided to become a contractor with FedEx Ground, providing delivery services in the Greater Philadelphia area. While other managers run the day-to-day operations, Ashot Avakyan, who is President & Chief Executive Officer, and Vazgen Avakyan, who is Chief Technology Officer, are hands-on in all their businesses.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Avakyan Capital is poised for continued exponential growth. We are looking to hire a talented and highly motivated Controller. Reporting to the President, the Controller will play a critical role in strategic decision making and operations as the company continues to enhance its quality offerings and undergoes rapid growth. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, participatory manager who will have a successful track record in setting priorities; as well as excellent analytic, organization, and communication skills. Basic college degree in Accounting or Economics is essential, with thorough knowledge of accounting and financial functional expertise.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Controller will be responsible for supervising a bookkeeper, which will include establishing and maintaining organizational structure as well as training and mentoring of accounting staff, as needed. In addition, the Controller is responsible for the following:

Operational:

• Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient accounting close on a monthly basis.
• Ensure accuracy of reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
• Manages accounting functions on a day-to-day basis including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, procurement and general ledger accounting.
• Enhances use of software and integrates software into accounting processes and procedures.
• Performs technical accounting issue research and resolution as necessary.
• Assists the President with preparation and completion of the fiscal year budgeting process, evaluates business unit performance against budget, and develops forecasts/reforecasts to provide an accurate projection of financial performance.

Financial Reporting:

• Forecasting of budgets, KPIs and targets for continued growth.
• Preparation of financial packages to include business reports, financial forecasts and statements for banks, investors, etc.
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Supervises the preparation of the monthly management financial reporting package and analysis.
• Reporting of operational data including key performance metrics. Determine ways to reduce costs.
• Coordinates the creation of periodic Board of Directors reporting packages.
• Manages the annual financial audit process performed by our independent CPA firm.
• Assist in preparation of annual tax preparation performed by our independent CPA firm.
• Internal Controls:
• Develops, analyzes, documents and implements internal controls.
• Develops, maintains, and enhances accounting and finance policies, processes and procedures to comply with US GAAP.
• Seeks opportunities to revise or create new policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Other:

• Strong work ethic and a positive can-do attitude.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management about the finances of the business and justify certain financial recommendations.
• Responsible for local, state and federal tax compliance and reporting (including payroll, property and sales and use tax compliance and reporting).
• Manages preparation of regulatory filings.
• Establishes and implements short and long-range accounting goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
• Manages projects and initiatives as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• 5-10 years of experience with high growth company (logistics experience helpful).
• 5 years working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) (Preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics or related field.
• CPA (Preferred)
• Management experience building and leading accounting teams.
• General ledger and other accounting systems experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets experience.
• US work authorization (Required)
