Position: Design Assistant
Job Overview :
Our company is searching for a creative and motivated Design Assistant to join our team to help build out our first satellite office in New York City. The Design Assistant will work under the direction of the Lead Designer, and will assist in the various aspects of the design process. The ideal candidate is passionate about design and has a strong understanding of design principles and techniques. The candidate should have excellent attention to detail, be highly organized, and possess strong communication skills.
Responsibilities :
- Support design operations for a growing studio (vendor communication, order processing, filing and maintenance of sample library and studio space)
- Assist in the design process by creating initial concepts, sketches, or layouts
- Help with the preparation of design presentations and other visual materials
- Research design trends, materials, and color schemes
- Help maintain project schedules, budgets, and timelines
- Support the Lead Designer in liaising with clients and other stakeholders
- Help with the organization of project files and documentation
- Source fabrics/materials based on client input
- Order samples and produce sample boards
- Confirm design team appointments and organize calendar entries
- Work with team to build out new satellite office, including establishing local vendor relationships and client relationships
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in interior design, interior architecture, or a related field
- Design or architecture experience a plus
- Strong proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp
- Strong creative and time management skills
- Ability to work independently with little oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Great organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Team player who is excited and willing to help out
- Studio Designer experience a plus
- Customer service focused empathy– ability to see from the clients’ point of view
- Must be able to physically navigate project sites, including ascending and descending stairs, carrying packages or boxes up to 30 lbs in weight, and occasionally standing or moving around continuously for long periods of time, and verbally communicate with clients, contractors and vendors.
