    About Avegant:

Avegant is a well-funded, venture-backed consumer electronics company developing the next-generation of consumer wearables.  We are pioneering innovative optical and software technologies that will forever change how we interact and engage with our environment and each other. We’ve won multiple awards for our flagship product, The Glyph, and our team is best in class. We are the leaders in mixed reality, and this is only the beginning.

If you think you have what it takes to be part of our multiple-award winning team, then come join us and be part of a company that is actually changing the future.

    Overview:

Avegant is looking for a Hardware Manager that is not only great at what they do, but who will be an integral part of our team.  We’re seeking someone with previous experience managing a small Electrical Engineering/Hardware development team with experience being hands-on and taking on part of the work, as well (this is a working manager position).  You’ll work closely with Program Management, Mechanical Engineering and other members of our development team to drive the design of next-generation head mounted display devices utilizing differentiated technology for 3D Lightfield displays for a variety of industrial and commercial applications, as well as participate in cutting edge research on new Augmented Reality technologies.  This position reports to the Director of Software.

Working together and supporting each other is critical to our success.  We function well as a team, and are better together because we actually enjoy each other’s company!  Our team-building happens both organically and with intention—through daily lunch together in the office, shooting hoops after lunch, handling meetings over nature walks, and team events outside of the office.  We’re seeking candidates that will continue to bring that same enthusiasm to the team!

    Responsibilities:

    • Staffing, growing and managing a small Electrical Engineering functional team, able to work across multiple products and deliver on time with good quality.
    • Act as a coach and mentor for the Electrical Engineering team and help team members grow in their abilities and capabilities.

    • Manage budgets for resources and time.
    • Provide strong technical leadership and architectural direction for cutting edge products.

    • The ability to take on some key technical tasks individually on complex technical designs.
    • Interface with key suppliers of components and subsystems, establishing specifications and validation procedures.
    • Work closely with the supply chain and manufacturing partners to translate designs in high-yielding, manufacturable designs that hit throughput and cost targets.
    • Some international and domestic travel may be required.

    Qualifications:

    • BSEE or equivalent preferred. MSEE and/or MBA a plus.
    • Experience in leading Electrical Engineering/Hardware teams and managing individual contributors.
    • 7+ years of experience in electrical development including symbol creation, schematics, PCB design, as well as board and system-level bring up.
    • Experience working with cross-functional teams (FW, EE, acoustic, ME, ID) to weigh performance tradeoffs and ultimately define system design.
    • Proven ability to independently find and select 3rd party partners including the ability to articulate decision making process to a broader engineering team.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of individuals inside and outside the company and ability to work as a team member.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing, FW, SW and Mechanical Engineering a plus.
