    JOB PURPOSE

    The Thermal Lab Test Engineer is responsible for devising and executing tests that validate thermal management component and system performance against a variety of requirements.  The Test Engineer is also responsible for day to day operational needs of the Thermal Lab, including budget planning, equipment specifications, and maintaining safe working conditions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in the development of detailed DVP&R plans, including statistical confidence intervals
    • Lead the scheduling and execution of test plans including acquiring quotes and availability at outside test houses
    • Create budget proposals and determine large capital equipment needs based on test plan requirements
    • Write detailed test procedures
    • Develop NI LabView equipment drivers
    • Develop NI Test Stand scripts
    • Execute test procedures: Hands-on in the lab, working with thermal system test benches, using various automotive refrigerants and coolants
    • Post process data and publish test reports in a timely manner, to support the product development cycle
    • Update DVPR with test execution dates and links to reports
    • Ensure all product issues are identified, logged, tracked, and resolved during each testing phase
    • Good communication with the rest of the organization when issues/failures arise
    • Setup and maintain an Equipment Calibration Program for all test equipment in the lab
    • Design and document test setups including equipment selection and harness drawings.
    • Maintain a safe and inclusive lab working environment

    EXPERIENCE

    • 3 years of experience with automotive HVAC systems and components
    • 3 years of experience with automotive thermal management systems and components
    • Technical understanding and familiarity with automotive industry standards, including environmental, mechanical, and electrical performance validation
    • Experience applying instrumentation to achieve specific measurement goals
    • Experience with CAN, LIN, Ethernet communications
    • Familiarity with NI cDAQ hardware and LabView, Test Stand software
    • Development of NI LabView drivers for hardware functional tests
    • Experience working with mechanical/electronic systems
    • Experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
