    The person in the role of Test Engineer – Powertrain will develop and maintain the test control solutions for power electronics, electric motors and drive unit systems for electric vehicles. They will lead in specifying sourcing and documenting the equipment and interfaces necessary for executing defined test profiles. They will assist in the design of Powertrain test stands and fixturing. The candidate shall be capable of translating requirements and potential failure modes into test cases. They shall be familiar with automotive and industrial equipment communication protocols and high voltage electrical safety standards. They will lead data handling and processing of raw measurements to aid rapid engineering assessment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Convert test requests and system requirements into test procedures and equipment setups.
    • Maintain documentation of test equipment, fixture designs and test setups.
    • Communicate, coordinate and consult with responsible engineers of hardware on test.
    • Process and document data from tests in an easily managed format for engineering analysis.
    • Execute bench testing including manual and automated testing.
    • Manage own workload priorities, identify roadblocks and communicate to lead or group manager.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • BS or higher degree in mechanical, electrical or software engineering.
    • 5+ years experience in the development of NI LabVIEW based control systems and hardware in the automotive test environment.
    • 5+ years experience with Vector CANalyzer, CANape and network interface tools.
    • 5+ years experience with computer operated test setups, systems, equipment and drivers.
    • Familiarity with three phase electric motor controls and high voltage motor controller devices.
    • Hands on experience with dynamometer test systems, high voltage power supplies and thermal chambers.
    • Expertise in serial communication protocols, particularly RS-232, CAN, LIN, Ethernet and FlexRay.
    • Knowledge of laboratory practices, instrumentation and vehicle high voltage electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of test equipment and fixture design practices to guide manufacturing and facility infrastructure.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively work across multiple functional teams.
