    Overall Function

    EDF's digital team executes a wide range of projects to support EDF's goals, from testing and optimizing single elements to building complex interactive projects. We're a close-knit, collaborative group that's committed to ongoing training, learning and experimentation to develop individually and as a team.

     

    Your contribution as Web Developer will be to work closely with our senior developer and the rest of our small, nimble build team to handle the day-to-day needs and larger projects of our Membership and Marketing departments. You will work closely with both groups to further their outreach efforts to reach and inform those interested in our work. This position will report to the Manager of Front-End Development and Digital Production and is part of EDF's Marketing and Communications team. The location can be based in: Washington DC, San Francisco or Sacramento offices.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    You will assist EDF in accomplishing its mission by:

     

    • Building email and page templates to help our fundraising team and advocacy teams meet their goals.
    • Building interactive features to engage EDF's key audiences.
    • Improve our understanding of our visitors and their behavior via data collection and visit tracking.

     

    In fulfilling these responsibilities, you will be expected to:

     

    • Produce stable, well-documented and reusable code, templates and libraries for future use.
    • Provide development support for EDF's websites in collaboration with other team members and stakeholders.
    • Maintain our team's reputation for providing on-time, reliable and high-quality work.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • 4 years of relevant experience required.
    • Ability to quickly learn coding and templating languages and to work on projects as part of a team or independently. Must demonstrate self-motivation, initiative and flexibility.
    • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, as well as in understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and finding solutions for them.
    • Good understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript libraries, including jQuery; workflow tools, such as Gulp or Grunt; and code-versioning tools, such as Git.
    • Basic understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS, and image authoring tools, such as Photoshop or GIMP.
    • Experience with APIs and RESTful services, Google Analytics, NodeJS environments, and database management systems, especially MySQL.
    • Exposure to content management systems, such as Drupal and WordPress.
