    Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is seeking a communications director to develop and execute a comprehensive brand and communications strategy for the nation’s largest veterans advocacy organization. The ideal candidate is a passionate and experienced communicator who can oversee a small team and execute media relations and content development. Significant experience in media relations and/or digital is preferred and the ability to serve as a spokesperson is a plus.

    Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) translates the experience, concerns and hopes of America’s veterans and their families into a common vision of liberty and freedom, and advocates for policies that will preserve the freedom and liberty veterans and their families so proudly fought and sacrificed to defend. CVA focuses on fixing and reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), but also engages on other issues critical to preserving liberty here at home, such as Pentagon reform and free speech. 

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive branding and communications strategy that increases awareness of the organization, and advances the operational and policy goals of the organization as determined by the executive director, policy director and other stakeholders.
    • Work collaboratively with internal press, digital, creative, writing and research teams to project manage the development, distribution and maintenance of quality content, collateral and other assets as needed.
    • Manage and supervise a small and dedicated communications team.
    • Project-manage issue campaigns for the organization, from development to execution.
    • Manage media relationships, and speak on the record to various media outlets on behalf of the organization. 
    • Optimize media opportunities to insert the brand’s POV and drive narratives in the press.
    • Support CVA grassroots chapters across the country with their media relations and branding strategy needs. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3+ years of political and/or grassroots communications experience preferred
    • Experience with the military and/or veteran communities and/or policy preferred
    • Experience managing or supervising a team
    • Proven ability to speak on the record required; experience on TV and radio preferred
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Innovative and willing to challenge the status quo and envision what could be
    • Customer-focused attitude
    • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively when developing new issue campaigns
