    ABOUT GOTENNA

goTenna is building the world's most intelligent and scalable mobile mesh networks. Our protocols and devices are designed to enable off-grid connectivity and augment traditional communications networks. goTenna mesh networking turns everything in the world around us into programmable mobile infrastructure to decentralize connectivity and unlock society's last-mile.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

goTenna seeks a passionate, mission-driven, quality-oriented RF engineer to join its engineering team. The RF engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, and production release of RF handheld radios.  The RF engineer provides strong technical expertise to the product development team and delivers high quality products to meet demanding customer requirements. This role is ideally based locally in New York City, but we are open to remote candidates who are willing to travel regularly and, on occasion, for extended periods, to spend time on-site with the team in Brooklyn. Travel to meet with customers or visit our contract manufacturer (based in Mexico) should also be expected.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • RF electrical design, radio propagation modeling and prediction, schematic capture/simulation, board layout, design verification testing, product validation and technical specifications.
    • RF front-end design, filter design, analog to digital converter design, wave path analysis and interference analysis.
    • Ensure the electrical designs and system level solutions will meet the intent of the requirements documents and marketing interfacing specifications.
    • Define the hardware and software architecture of RF solutions as part of roadmap planning.
    • Create, contribute to, and execute engineering schedules and program budgets to meet customer and marketing requirements.
    • Provide consulting and troubleshooting on technical problems that arise in product development.
    • Perform engineering calculations, measurements, analysis for new development verification and sustaining engineering work design changes.
    • Write technical specifications and support technical proposals for new development.
    • Develop and support test requirements for product characterization and verification.
    • Assist with prototypes and engineering builds (hands on capability required).
    • Gather and analyze test data to execute engineering judgment in implementing corrective measures.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
    • 10+ years experience in design and product development of system level RF solutions.
    • In-depth knowledge of RF radio-communication, RF power amplifier circuits, RF filter circuits, antenna design and RF propagation principles.
    • Experience in designing and optimizing novel waveforms to meet desired end use requirements.
    • Working knowledge of commercial and military performance standards such as FCC, CE, IEC, Mil-Std-810, and Mil-Std-461.
    • Understanding of ISO 9000 and other quality-related best practices and certifications.
    • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and information to other functional departments within the organization.
    • Exposure to agile software development practices.
    • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
    • Experience using RF test/lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers and spectrum analyzers.
    • Ability to work directly with electronic component vendors.
    • Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles working with contract manufacturers.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Preference for working in the innovative, fast-paced environment of a startup
    • An affinity for people who like telling jokes, sharing funny links, do cool stuff outside work, and try to be creative about team-building (e.g. survival skills training, murder mystery dinner theater, shuffleboard tournament, Mafia/Werewolf).
    • Love for goTenna and our mission to build a distributed communication network from the ground-up!
