    ABOUT GOTENNA:

goTenna is foundationally disrupting the +$50B global mobile Mesh Networking (MANET) industry with communications solutions 40x more cost-effective, 12x lighter, 10x smaller and 6x longer-lasting than anything else on the market. goTenna Pro tactical mesh radios are deployed by the U.S. Military, FEMA and CALFire to enable real-time situational awareness and mission-critical comms in comms-denied environments when cell, wifi, and satellite are unavailable. The next generations of goTenna's products will expand into IoT, IIoT, ASIC, and mass consumer and emerging markets applications.

goTenna's mission of creating scalable decentralized off-grid communications comes with exciting challenges that require innovation in all aspects of wireless networking. The Network Scientist will work with the Chief Scientist, the Firmware and other Engineering teams to develop and extend the Aspen Grove mesh networking protocol suite. Responsibilities include designing, simulating and helping implement networking protocols, producing specifications of such protocols and interfaces, and experimentally evaluating performance. The ideal Network Scientist should be passionate about goTenna's mission, creative, self-motivated and have strong communication skills. The Network Scientist should display strong critical-thinking skills and have a collaborative approach to solving problems, while also being able to work independently when required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Designing and/or helping design cutting-edge protocols to enable wireless mesh networking.
    • Performance analysis of existing and new protocols using a combination of modeling, simulation and testbed experimentation.
    • Producing design specifications and experimental analysis reports.
    • Helping publish work in conferences and journals, and helping patent ideas.
    • Investigating standards and technologies in areas such as the Internet-of-Things (IoT).
    • Keeping track of state of the art in wireless mesh network and applications.
    • Brainstorming new ideas with the Chief Scientist and the Firmware team.
    • Working with Project Management, Product Management, and members of goTenna's Engineering team.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum of Master's degree in  Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
    • At least 1 year's worth of experience working in industry settings, either as a full-time employee or as an intern.
    • Strong technical background with expertise in the area of wireless communication networks, preferably mesh networks.
    • Experience in modeling and simulation of networking protocols, knowledge of the ns3 simulation tool a very strong plus.
    • Outstanding software development skills in at least C, C++, and Python.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Outstanding organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

IT'D BE AWESOME IF YOU HAD:

    • Experience with collaborative software development tools.
    • Experience with embedded systems, firmware, and device drivers.
    • A keen interest in publishing results and/or patenting them
    • Knowledge of RF (Physical Layer) technologies
    • An affinity for people who like telling jokes, sharing funny links, do cool stuff outside work and try to be creative about team-building (e.g. survival skills training, murder mystery dinner theater, shuffleboard tournament, Mafia/Werewolf)
    • Love for goTenna and our mission to build a distributed communication network from the ground-up!
