    The A-STEP College Navigator responsibilities include the administration of all matters related to A-STEP candidates who are enrolling in a post-secondary program.  This includes the following:  assisting students with registration, enrollment, financial aid resources, monitoring, reporting, and intervention if required.  Monitoring progress of A-STEP students enrolled in universities and colleges.  Additionally, the College Navigator will work with leadership to engage with potential employers and assist with career readiness.

    JOB DUTIES

     ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Work with A-STEP Program Manager to identify and establish relationships with affiliate organizations.
    • Work with A-STEP Program Manager to develop systems for monitoring student performance, implementing student success plans, and monitoring mentor participation.
    • Contribute to knowledge-sharing efforts through participation in seminars, conference calls, surveys, etc.
    • Data entry in Salesforce for reporting purposes
    • Recruit candidates for participation in A-STEP
    • Work primarily on location at the Beaches.

    MANAGING STUDENT PERFORMANCE

    • Maintain the enrollment criteria and process
    • Coordinate testing and advising needed for each student.
    • Assess if the student is an appropriate candidate for the program
    • Coordinate external resources that will better support eligible students. (Child care, transportation)
    • Assist students through the enrollment and financial aid process.
    • Work with local employers to create opportunities to attend job fairs and to set up potential interviews.
    • Identify potential problems and intervene as necessary to ensure student success.  This may include: leveraging the services of affiliated organizations.
    • Assist the program to host one event each year to celebrate graduation from the program.
    • Maintain database monitoring student progress and case notes.
    • Work with candidates on career readiness skills (dress, interview skills and resumes)
    • Occasional special events and training after hours or on weekends.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    • Significant experience or educational background, post-secondary education, or social work (e.g., school councilors or college advisors).
    • Demonstrated experience in working with schools/colleges.
    • Strong understanding and sensitivity to the perspectives of low-income populations.
    • Strong understanding of affiliate program offerings, including participation requirements and benefits.

    LEADERSHIP

    • Ability to instill a vision for candidate success and develop teamwork among all supporting parties.
    • Ability to develop a mind-set of continuous improvement for all A-STEP candidates.

     

    COMMUNICATIONS

    • Ability to listen and observe in order to understand the needs of individual A-STEP candidates.
    • Ability to use spoken communications to establish rapport with and influence all supporting parties.
    • Ability to write effective performance appraisals and correspondence related to candidate management.
