ACCOUNTING & COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

iFixit is hiring for a new position in our Internal Services Department. As the Accounting and Compliance Specialist you will be involved in numerous aspects of the company's ongoing accounting and compliance functions. Employment is in California at the iFixit headquarters in San Luis Obispo, with remote work only during work-from-home mandates.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Monthly sales and use tax filings in 40+ states
• Maintenance of sales and use tax licenses, including updating license types as needed
• Internal reporting on sales and use tax compliance, costs of compliance, and variance in tax collected versus tax remitted
• Assist with payroll tax account compliance, including setting up new accounts and filing initial returns (our payroll tax provider files ongoing payroll tax returns)
• Assist legal team with corporate legal compliance

ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Daily revenue postings to general ledger and reconciliations
• Daily accounts payable postings and reconciliations
• Participate in transition of ERP systems in 2022
• Accounting support during period closing process

BEFORE APPLYING YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
• Ability to complete work quickly to meet strict compliance deadlines
• Ability to aggregate large amounts of data into reportable and reconcilable schedules

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:

• We deal in extremely large data sets so we regularly record batch data and reconcile totals.
• Reconciliation problems happen - you need to be able to dig into the problems and identify the correct solution to reconcile.
• A lot of our work is automated or semi-automated. A lot of it is not. You need to be able to juggle both.
• Time passes quickly and keeping up with the pace is critical.
• Sometimes we need to make estimates and guesses. Other times we need perfection.
• We are a small department and everybody is expected to jump in and help when help is needed.
