iFixit is currently seeking a service technician/mechanic to help create unparalleled repair documentation on outdoor power equipment, power tools, and more. The ideal candidate is technically oriented, has knowledge and experience working with small engine machines, enjoys teaching people how things work, and loves to take things apart. This is a part-time position for 8-12 hours per week during traditional business hours (9am-5pm).

WHAT YOU'D BE DOING:

• Disassembling various types of outdoor power equipment, like lawn mowers, hydraulic tillers, trenchers, and more. You'll be swapping out drive axles on tillers, working on hydraulic systems on log splitters, and replacing belts on brush mowers, just to give you an idea.
• Working with a photographer to take photos of the entire disassembly process.

AS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE, YOU SHOULD:

• Enjoy tinkering and fixing! You probably have a toolbox at home or in your car, and while you love having the right tool for the job, you've made do on more than one occasion.
• Be a problem solver. You'll want to know how to deal with seized bearings, stuck bolts, and sheared screws without breaking the equipment, as well as coming up with creative solutions for removing components in the most efficient way possible.
• Enjoy working with people and communicating with coworkers precisely and accurately.
• Be self-sufficient, confident, reliable.

This is an hourly position available immediately at our downtown San Luis Obispo office. Prior work as a service technician or mechanic is a plus, but not necessary, neither is any specific degree.
