    We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to help manage and support the next generation platform for streaming video applications. We are a small, independent team that values great work and hustle.     As a DevOps Engineer, you are a technical leader within the dev-ops team and subject matter expert for iStreamPlanet's cloud-scale customer broadcast solutions. You are a consistent, trustworthy face for iStreamPlanet, bridging the world's major broadcast networks with our digital video platform for long-term, sustained customer value and satisfaction.

    You resolve the most complex support issues and help guide the engineering team through delivery of scalable, automated solutions. You participate in rapid response to fix production issues, leveraging your experience in networking, Linux, and AWS/GCE cloud environments. You demonstrate sound judgment, operating with data to drive clarity.

    You drive the team to improve operational efficiency and availability through the development of Service Level Indicators, Objectives, and Agreements. You have a deep understanding of production architecture and are familiar with operating system and cloud-based service-oriented architecture best-practices. You understand the business impact of support decisions and use this to help inform our continued product evolution.

    You deep dive into automation issues to identify problems and work with engineering teams to resolve issues impacting fleet performance and availability. This includes multi-tier, distributed service log analysis to identify patterns, trends, and identify important correlations. You design and develop complex, high performing scripts and infrastructure applications. You maintain your cutting-edge skill set by introducing industry innovations into our technology stack.

    You are a vital part of iStreamPlanet's continuous improvement in operations, iteratively refining scalable and sustainable customer integration to meet the needs of our growing business. This includes development of automated scripts and direct contribution to internal product documentation such as troubleshooting guides and knowledge base. You drive continued investment in iStreamPlanet's service health monitors and regularly engage in cross-team planning. You are viewed as a support leader across iStreamPlanet's solutions. 

     

    What You Will Do and Learn:

    • Design and build tools to deploy, monitor and manage production services
    • Automate tools to perform routine system administration tasks, systematically reducing manual toil
    • Collect, transform, analyze, and refine operational data, using it to partner with peer engineering teams throughout the full software development lifecycle for continuous improvement in the reliability of our platform
    • Provide the first tier of customer support, working with both upstream video providers and downstream distributors
    • Respond in real time to production service problems and outages, troubleshooting and escalating problems for rapid resolution
    • Collaborate with the engineering team to implement monitoring, alerting and management infrastructure
    • Use and develop best practices in microservice deployment, scaling, monitoring, alerting and problem solving, working in an AWS Kubernetes environment
    • Collect and synthesize system requirements from the engineering team
    • Participate in design reviews to identify and mitigate support risks.
    • Work independently with minimal guidance
    • Deliver quickly, regularly and iteratively with the rest of the engineering team in an agile process 

    Skills & Requirements:

    • 3 years experience in a relevant technical position
    • Strong experience with:
      • Linux administration and scripting
      • AWS cloud technologies and processes
      • Web servers and proxies (e.g. Apache HTTPD, Apache Tomcat, Nginx)
      • One or more DevOps, Orchestration/Configuration Management and Continuous Integration technology (e.g. Chef, Puppet, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, AWS CLI, etc.)
      • Experience with service monitoring tools
      • General networking knowledge: HTTP, DNS, load balancers
      • GitHub source management with build and CI/CD solutions 
    • Desirable experience with:
      • Kubernetes
      • Microservice deployment and management
    • Ability to debug and optimize scripting code and automate recurring and/or routine tasks
    • Passion for dev-ops and learning new technologies
    • Highly motivated to continuously improve system uptime, reliability and availability over time.
    • Desire to engage with and further our collaborative culture.
    • Ability to obsess over customer needs and demonstrate customer empathy
