AJ+ is looking for a seasoned Senior Producer to join our fast-paced newsroom and help us take our content to the next level.

We’re looking for journalists who have done this before, living and breathing social video on the daily. Your stories have gone viral more times than you can remember and you instinctively know how to make important stories shareable and complicated stories relatable. This senior role also requires leadership skills. Not just a journalist who can create award-winning content, but someone who can help inspire and nurture less-experienced producers on the team. All our journalists are expected to have their fingers on the pulse of world news, from President Trump’s latest tweet to the latest on the wars in Syria and Yemen. You’ll also need to have an unhealthy obsession with social media, and an ability to spot the stories our audience cares about while they’re breaking.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES             

• The Senior Producer works under the Newsroom Executive Producer and will be responsible for producing select pieces of video content from start to finish
• Taking the lead on new initiatives developed by the team and the Executive Producer
• Assisting with fact‐checking stories, maintaining consistencies in workflows, and regular housekeeping
• Assisting with handovers to and from Newsroom teams based in different time zones
• Initiating and maintaining partnerships linked to AJ+ content
• Coordinating with planning, audience development, and data teams
• Creating accurate, concise, and engaging content using creative storytelling techniques
• Conceiving, pitching, and executing story ideas
• Meeting daily deadlines
• Following AJ+ editorial guidelines and ethics
• Ensuring that AJ+ content is consistent with goals
• The Senior Producer may act as Executive Producer when the Executive Producer is not available
• This is a rotating shift-based job that will require set evening and weekend hours each month

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

• Bachelor degree or relevant experience
• Minimum of 5 Years’ experience in an editorial position 
• Proven experience in video production or online Journalism
• Proven experience mentoring less experience producers
• A history of leadership skills developed within a newsroom
• Outstanding ability to scrutinize and edit the work of other producers
• Outstanding writing and video scripting abilit 
• Outstanding ability to write concise and accurate journalistic headlines and summaries
• A clear understanding of AJ+ editorial identity and the style of our content
• Ability to work under tight pressure and deadlines
• Ability to work long, flexible hours and adapt to changing priorities
• Sound editorial judgment on a range of global issues
• An understanding of the demands of a 24-hour news cycle
• A strong grasp of newsroom workflows and operations
• Sound communication abilities
• Adobe Premiere experience preferred
