Start Date: Fall 2022 Work Hours: 40 hours per week Length of Assignment: 3 months Education Level: Master's, PhD (pursuing, not completed). Preferred Majors/Disciplines: Cancer biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Genomics. This internship is currently planned to have both dry and wet lab components so it is designed to be in-person. We will keep candidates informed if this changes. The Oncology Biomarker Development (OBD) group translates its understanding of cancer biology to develop personalized therapies and diagnostics to transform clinical practice. Our mission is to translate our knowledge of cancer biology into robust biomarkers to inform decision-making about our candidate medicines in early development and guide the selection of patients into our clinical trials to maximize benefit, competitive differentiation and sustainable development. Project Description The internship position is focused on understanding fundamental features of cell cycle control in disease cancer etiology and disease progression to predict therapeutic response to an exciting cell cycle modulator.  Studies will involve multiple approaches to study tumor biology using cellular and animal data, complemented by genomics and clinical response data from numerous large clinical trials.  The project aims to identify biomarkers that may predict response or resistance to an exciting pre-clinical molecule and, as such, will provide visibility into the development of the molecule in a clinical setting from the pre-clinical stage. Ideal candidates would be early-stage scientists who are in the process of completing their Ph.D. or have completed their Masters and have significant experience with cancer research and cell cycle biology.  The intern will lead the project in a multidisciplinary setting and effectively switch between dry and wet lab to validate their findings in vitro.  The position is ideal for someone with a track record of being a thoughtful scientist who can effectively communicate results and interpret them in the context of published work.   Required Skills This project will require background in tumor and cell cycle biology. Independently design experiments and be able to switch between dry and wet lab. Basic background in computational tools such as R would be preferred.
