  • Responsibilities

    Develop and lead a high-performance accounting team. Streamline existing activities to enable future growth and compliance with rules and regulations. Collaborate cross-functionally to improve systems, processes and controls.

    You will be responsible for a variety of accounting, tax, and compliance functions and activities in support of nLIGHT’s expanding businesses in Vancouver, Washington and Hillsboro, Oregon, as well as international locations. You need to be a hands-on and versatile manager who will ensure proper accounting of business results as well as improve the quality of data on which decisions are made. We are seeking a self-starter with very high personal and professional values, attention to detail, strong work ethic and positive attitude. 

    FUNCTIONS

    • Support Corporate Controller with managing all aspects of month-end close process for the US general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis, as well as worldwide consolidations and intercompany accounting.
    • Manage coordination of federal, state, income, international and other tax compliance activities internally as well as with third party accounting firms.
    • Work with Accounting Manager to identify opportunities to streamline activities within the transactional processing including US accounts payable and accounts receivable.
    • Overall responsibility for US payroll and benefits accounting and administration. Partner with HR to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Maintain knowledge of US GAAP rules and ensure proper application as a part of the accounting and reporting processes.
    • Document existing and develop new policies and procedures. Help develop and communicate accounting policies cross-functionally and across legal entities.
    • Maintain ownership for monitoring and executing compliance activities within the accounting department.
    • Hire, train and develop accounting team members. Coordinate workflows to improve efficiency.
    • Assist with special projects relating to other business initiatives as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • CPA required
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation
    • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience including a mix of public accounting and industry
    • Experience in manufacturing or high-tech industry preferred
    • Practical experience in corporate tax compliance strongly desired
    • Proven track record of working in multi-entity and global organizations
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to communicate accounting concepts
    • Familiarity with ERP and Payroll processing systems, strong system skills
    • Recent system implementation experience is a plus
    • Must enjoy new challenges, identifying improvements and following through to drive related changes.
    • Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate complex information to management.
