IP & LEGAL MANAGER

Cell Foundation (NYSCF) is a rapidly growing and highly successful
nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell
research. NYSCF is seeking someone with life sciences experience that is
a detail-oriented individual, with an interest in translational
research, to work as an IP & Legal Manager under the supervision of the
VP, Business Development. The IP & Legal Manager role is a full time
position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for protection of research discoveries and proprietary
rights of NYSCF in accordance with the objectives of NYSCF and the
regulations of governmental agencies or other third parties (e.g.,
for-profit corporations) that provide research funding.
- Orients employees to intellectual property and technology transfer
policies and procedures.
- Ensures appropriate transfer of outgoing and incoming intellectual
property, including patents, patent applications and
research materials.
- Evaluates new technology disclosures submitted by NYSCF researchers
to determine patentability of technology.
- In response to researcher requests, reviews manuscripts and other
materials produced by the Institute's investigators prior to their
public disclosure.
- Manages the patenting process working closely with outside counsel.
- Oversees the maintenance and integrity of the NYSCF’s intellectual
property databases.
- Coordinates and maintains internal filing system of all agreements
and other appropriate documentation related to intellectual property
including IP reporting.
- Drafts, negotiates agreements working with the Business Development
and Executive team, and administers all agreements generated by
NYSCF (e.g., corporate sponsored research agreements, service
agreements, consulting agreements, licensing agreements and research
collaboration agreements).
- Performs other legal duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- JD preferred with two to five or more years of experience in the
biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, or a biomedical research
organization, academic technology transfer office or law firm.
- Patent Agent with 5+years of contract experience.
- Candidates with experience in IP, negotiating licenses and research
partnership transactions, performing appropriate due diligence and
successfully closing complex transactions are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to thrive and produce results in a fast-paced, dynamic,
entrepreneurial environment.
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience
and qualifications.
