    Job Description

Description (This will begin as a remote / work-from-home position, and potentially transition to in-office -- we are ONLY HIRING INTERNS FROM THE GREATER BOSTON AREA at this time. This position has a tentative application due date of MAY 15 & tentative start date of JUNE 1. Applicants must have work authorization in the United States)

In this paid internship, you will be adding features to a web interface used by researchers, portfolio managers, and other stakeholders in the fixed income space to assess the exposure to climate risk and understand the demographic profile of their investments. You will directly:

    • Use modern Javascript libraries and tooling to code new features. Packages used include Vue, VueX, Vuetify, webpacker, and more.
    • Collaboratively specify and consume data APIs
    • Work collaboratively in our agile development lifecycle to branch, code, test, and commit features

Projects could include data visualization (using Plotly and more), mapping (using Leaflet + Mapbox), data manipulation and download formatting (xlsx, pptx, and pdf conversion), and other features to create useful, compelling, and delightful user experiences.

In addition to the above technical skills and knowledge directly related to software engineering, you will inevitably acquire knowledge in the subject domains risQ deals in, including

    • Climate, hazard, and catastrophe modeling
    • Fixed-income investing, primarily municipal bonds and mortgage backed securities
    • Google Cloud Platform, geospatial technologies, big data, and data science

Prerequisites It’s not strictly required to have prior experience with the specific technologies or practices listed above. However, to get the most out of the internship, we expect candidates to have

    • Introductory or intermediate coursework in computer science or software engineering (algorithms, data structures, etc).
    • Knowledge of Javascript syntax and common concepts (functional programming, ES6, transpilation, webpacker, etc)
    • Practical experience in putting together working software, either for academic or personal projects
    • 20 hours per week to commit to the internship (specific hours are flexible, and work will most likely be remote)
